Peavey Special 212 (Transtube)

Does anyone have experience with this model. I can pick one up fairly cheap I think. Beside the size and weight are there other issues? Opinions on transtube technology? Thanks!

Try it thoroughly first. They sound different than previous generations of Peavey SS amps.

My son has one (among several other amps) and I have tried it. This one is rated at 200 watts @ 8 ohm and has two Peavey 'Sheffield' speakers (16 ohm from memory).
For guitar it is pretty good, very loud and a lot of mid range sound 'throw' . The speakers are voiced toward the "British' Rock sound a lot not sweet and clean.
I found it to be very hard to get a likeable (to me) pedal steel tone - others may go for it depending on what genre you are playing.
I have a Peavey 160 watt 'Special' and it is quite OK for steel especially with the chip mod and speaker change. This is an older model though - not a transtube.
The one you mentioned is certainly pretty bullet proof to handle the volumes my son plays at at times and not melt !!!
