My C6 RKL lower 3rd string C - B as most other C6 do.
Is there any reason I cant/shouldnt lower 9th string F - E at the same time on RKL ?
I find myself wanting to hear that 9th string go F - E when playing strings 9 7 4 ( F C A ) to ( E C A )
Having that E note on the 9th string would be totally ok for the C chord as well.
I dont see any immediate conflicts with the pedals but maybe some others can share some thoughts about lowering 9 F-E and 3 C-B at the same time on RKL.

Buddy's 9th pedal used to drop 9 to E and 10 to A.
I don't know that I'd see a conflict, but in the words of Louis Jordan, it's early in the morning. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

That change is usually a part of P8 and I use that voicing on a regular basis. Not too sure I'd want it bad enough to put it on a knee as well. P8 with RKR is kind of a bread and butter automatic for me.
But why not try it. If you find something cool that opens up let us know. |

Paul, Buddy had Boowah on , with the 7th string raise. P9 was the same without the 7th string raise. Must have mattered to him.... _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

My P8 does lower 9th string F-E but it also raises the 7th string C-C# and I find that the 7th string raise at same time give me a major voicing when I need a minor. Thats why Im trying find a way around it without changing the original P8.

You would lose things like 9b5 (+11) with root on the bottom.
So you could no longer play this:
without re-attacking the G note.
You would have to play the G on the raised A string instead of the lowered C string. |

Id be able play the Db9b5 on strings 10 9 7 6 4 w P5 and LKL A-Ab.
Cmaj9 would be on same strings w P4+P5 (My P4 raise 7 and 3 to C#)
The transition from Db9b5 to Cmaj9 does not feel comfortable since my 4th string A-Ab goes LKL while A-A# go LKR. If those knee levers was the other way around the move would be no trouble.
That same move Db9b5 to Cmaj9 would be a breeze to play on my ExtE9 7+7 tho.
I dont go into 5 note chord voicings on the steel guitar much. 4 note voicings is enough to keep track on for me but it was a nice study to see where I could find those 2 chords

Yes, same here; that's why I thought of it. I use it on ext E9.

If you don't play string 9 and string 3 at the same time, then those two pulls can't interfere with each other. |
