Just thought you guys might like to see what a 1976 left-handed Sho~Bud LDG looks like. I know it's a rare bird - Duane Marrs told me that they only made 4 or 5 of them. John McClung - my teacher - is having a devil of a time watching me play...and is really frustrated that he can't play it.

I've been playing for a year and initially took Winnie Winston's advice to try and learn right handed, after 30 years southpaw on regular 6 string....don't know if I did the right thing, the picking looks as though it would be easier, but the pedals over the other side????

Paul,
I have one of those 4 or 5. I ordered mine in a natural finish instead of the green.
Mine is about a 9.9 out of 10. I use the Dekley D-10 now days. Nothing beats the tone of a Sho-Bud to my ears, though. Yours is a couple of years older than mine. Very Nice guitar.

I rearranged a Sho Bud Maverick to a lefty for a friend of mine,turned out pretty good,pedals on the right and all!!!
Not to compare an LDG to a Mav,it would be compareing a Harley to a 3hp scooter.

Bill - I'd be mighty interested in how you did that conversion. I travel a lot for work (not pedal steel-related) and would love to have a really light-weight psg to take with me for practicing in the hotel. The Mav seems like a good candidate for that. The LDG is too much guitar to be throwing on and off of planes.

Paul,
Everything underside has to be moved to the other side,the bellcranks had been replaced with moveable(setscrew version)original were welded I think.The pedals are a little too much to center of guitar but the person I did it for never played psg,so that was not a problem for him.The pedalboard is made so the pedals can be positioned anywhere.The bellcranks will be the only prob,other than keeping your mind left instead of right,or is that right instead of left.I even put the Sho-Bud emblem on the other side,just looking at it you don't realise it's a lefty til you notice the keys are on the wrong end.
I am righthanded so setting it up and tuning it was a trip,also I put the wound strings on the player side so tabs will work.Here is a link to a picture.

You are right. Since I got the D-10 I find the cords getting in the way. I am thinking of getting some George L cables with right angle connectors to help this.

I saw a proto-type volume pedal at the Carter booth during the last NAMM show that was made so you could put the in/out jacks on the right or left side of the pedal.
Not sure if John is going to be selling them, but if a few of you Southpaw's ask for them, who know's.

If you use a pot pedal, Fender volume pedals are very easily converted to "left hand" use, since the pivot is in the exact center of the pedal!  |
