Hi all,

I took and switched to the "Day" copedant today and to my surprise I found the 1 & 7 strings hooked up but going nowhere.

My question is what is the the intended use and what can I expect to gain by hooking them back up again?

You aren't really telling us anything to be able to help you. Did you move those changes to a different lever? Give us some better info an we should be able to help.

My apologies.

I haven't moved anything. The rods to the strings I mentioned are in place but that's it.No levers, nothing else

Switching from the Emmons to the Day floor pedal set up has nothing to do with a lever connected to strings 1 & 7.

If the lever still has the rods connected for strings one and seven, but they do nothing, you probably just need to tune those strings with the lever at the changer end of the guitar. It is possible that someone loosened a collar or two underneath, in which case you'll have to ask a Sho-Bud expert what to do.

The most common change for strings 1 and 7 on older steels, which your Sho-Bud appears to be, is to raise both strings a half tone. It's a real easy change for the steel. But you could raise each of those strings, or just one, a full tone.

I'm not following, either. You say you found them hooked up, but then ask what you gain if you hook them back up again. Are they hooked up or not, and if so, what is it that they are hooked up to, esp. since your guitar has no levers.

I'm assuming this is an E9 S-10 guitar. Pictures would do this thread a world of good.

I'm sorry. Let me try this again.

The strings I'm talking about are already connected to the guitar but without a lever to move them. I can see them firmly in place but the lever is missing.

All I asked is what happens if I install a lever and adjust a half tone up?

So you have a cross shaft, bellcranks (or racks, if an old Bud) and pull rods, but no lever to move these pulls?
Mickey Adams and Buck Reid raise to F#, Brumley raised to G.
If it were MY guitar, I'd install the missing lever and move 7 raise to 6 lower.
BUT, I believe in giving a fair shot to what you have. I'd search the Tablature section for Brumley tab.
And I'll ask for forbearance for those who got frustrated with your posts. Imprecise language, combined with a lack of pics, will have people talking about two different things. Which is frustrating for all involved.

To answer your original question, it sounds like someone removed the lever at some point. It would be worth getting one to replace it. If they only raise a half step, which you are thinking, that change from F# to G gives you the 7th of the A chord with the A&B pedals down. There are some bluesey licks with that lever pulling the F# to G. You could use the G notes to give a minor with no pedals. I pretty much just use it for the 7th tones. It's probably the least useful lever on my guitar, although I do use it, more for licks than chords.

One combination I haven't seen suggested. If you already have a 6th string lower, then I might go with a 7th string lower and a 1st string raise. You could also use the 7th string lower on the same lever as the 6th string lower by going a full tone lower on 6 and picking up the 7th string lower as the split point. I've got that on one of my guitars and love the possibilities.

Whoa....

Have you considered the possibility that they are compensators? They would not have a lever, but connected via a bell crank to either your A or B pedal....

They are there to help the guitar play in tune with pedals up and pedals down. Myself and many others have these installed on their guitars.
