Hello all. I know a fellow who plays guitar left handed stung properly but he insists he needs left handed pots forvolume/tone controls.

I'm not a electronic expert but having played right hand guitar for 40 plus years and doing a lot of my own "fixin" I've never heard of a left handed pot.

Is there such a thing?

Thanks for any education you can share and best wishes, Walter

Reverse Audio or Reverse Log taper pots will let you have the correct volume and tone taper where fully clockwise is off and fully counterclockwise is full on.

I did see the Allparts listing after posting this Scott, and they DO list them. Brad, the reverse log or audio taper pots you mention makes sense. I did see some "discussion" on the Fender Forum about this subject also.

Would a linear taper pot be different than audio or log due to the difference in "curve shapes"?

Can't you just change the output lug on the pot? Maybe not on tone,,,,,,,,,.........

John on some tapers, switching the two outside wires makes the taper reversed.

Hi, My understanding is that Linear taper pots can switch the outer to tabs to be left handed. Audio taper pots need to be manufactured as left handed. Otherwise switching the two outer tabs creates pretty much an "on/off" with very little taper. You can find true lefty Audio taper pots on ebay in 250K, 500k etc. Makes a big difference if you are a lefty.

I thought turning a knob clockwise was the universal way to increase volume/tone...

By the way, I have a left-handed cheese straightener for sale...

That may be the case but the manufacturers seem to think otherwise. I have had a number of left-handed Fender & Gibson guitars with actual left handed pots and also improperly "lefty wired" right handed or "standard" pots. Even when the knobs are numbered as standard.

...interesting point about the numbering on the knobs...never thought about that one..

..even much less about the fact that you guys obviously have to source left-handed strings as well...don't know how you cope... Shocked

In my long distant past I had a pal that played a strat (and was damn good at it for an 18 year old, and any other age for that matter)..he did the pinky finger wrapped around the volume pot swelling 'thing'.

That's at least one reason why a strat would need one.
