Just heard about this amp. What's new inside? (Couldn't tell from the website.)

Jerry, I don't have an SE300, however, a few weeks ago, Scot built an SE500 for me. I personally don't know of anybody that has an SE300 or SE500 although I'm sure that someone does. I can use the same sample settings as Scot lists for the SE300, sounds great to me. A noticeable difference in the new Evans amps is the ability to use more treble in the overall settings. Scot has really "tamed" the treble. My favorite settings are those by Ronald Sikes that are located in the Forum archives. The power of the SE500 is more than sufficient and with my 8 ohm extension cabinet, the tone and volume is unbelievable Very Happy .

I'm glad to see that Scot has tamed the treble. It was one glaring fault I'd found in the 2 Evans amps I've own.

Yes, a few weeks ago whenever I called Scot regarding ordering a new SE500, one of the first things that he mentioned was the fact that the treble is now very usable and controllable. I can easily run my treble to 3 while using a Hilton pedal. The treble is no longer too bright or harsh. This was a major factor whenever I decided to ask him to build an amp for me. They're other positive changes as well, better to let Scot describe those in detail as he is better suited than I. I'm limited to plugging it in and dialing in a sweet spot. Very Happy

Jerry,I don't understand taming the treble. I've owned 2 Evans amps myself back in the 80's. Thanks for your help.

Again, Scot can definitely explain it better than I. He has changed something in the treble stack to make it more useable. I've never encountered this problem, even with my older Evans amps because I used single coil pickups and a Goodrich match-box buffer directly out of my guitar. Now, however, I can turn the treble up to at least "3" and dial in a sweet tone. Moreover, perform a "Google" Forum search regarding the previous model Evans amps. There, you'll discover much valuable info. I would highly recommend an Evans SE500 combo amp. I have reason to believe the SE300's would be as good or even better.

My opinion is that today's pickups, effects, speakers and volume pedals are all capable of reproducing stronger highs than fifty years ago when Jim designed the first Evans amps. As these improvements were made, the Treble control in older amps appeared to get more "touchy". Taming this control in the new amps has resulted in sweeter, more adjustable highs and increased headroom.
Recently, I have come to realize that 300 Watts rms is ideal for our combo amps. The portable 200 Watt amp head will continued to be built, but I'm phasing out the 500 W combo amps and all speaker cabinets. Carrying less inventory will allow us to sell the new SE300 for less than we charged for the SE200.
