Hanalei Moon

I've been working on Jerry Bryd's arrangement of Hanalei Moon from his instruction book. In that arrangement he does a modulation.

My question: Is this modulation a standard thing for Hanalei Moon and when you play this tune everyone always does that modulation, or is just his particular arrangement?

I know of no reason why the modulation needs to be there,however,I have 17 recordings of this song and all of them use the modulation. Our band does not. CC
