| Can levers be added to a pedal steel that has none? It is stock as made with five pedals and no levers. Excuse the stooped questions, I'm a noobie and just diving into this world of steel. |

The short answer is yes. If you let everyone know what brand/model of guitar you have, perhaps post a pic or two and the replies will be more plentiful (and perhaps actually helpful, unlike this one!)

As long as the strings attach to something that is capable of movement (ie a changer finger), then you can activate that movement any dang way you like  |

| I'm a double bassist, and play mostly in a bluegrass/americana/country band. I've had a hankering all my life to play pedal steel. Pedal steels are like rockinghorse poo here in New Zealand, but I just came across an old one called an Echo. It has five pedals and no levers, and I'm just wondering how relevant it would be. It is a 10 string, and seems to be complete. As I'm a complete and utter novice (not musically, I've been playing bass for 40 years), I am just floundering around at the moment. Because it's not mine (yet) I cant take any pics just now. I guess I figure it would be a good entry instrument, given that to import one from the USA is a very expensive proposition. |

As long as all ten strings (or all but #7) have changer fingers, you CAN add levers.
I've never heard of Echo, but that doesn't mean much.
A pull-release guitar will be a bit more of a challenge, as parts will be hard to come by, and you may need to make them yourself.

I spent holidays in Napier as a kid. Great place.
I'll mention you to Paddy Long, he might know of someone close who could help you. There are a few steelers around but not sure of Nth. Island ones.
Paddy added knee lever kits to my first S10 Shobud for me.

| Well turns out I was a bit premature. My auction bid got surpassed, and I'm not overly inclined to go higher on an unknown instrument. I've bought a cheap lap steel so will muck around on that until another PSG comes up. |
