Dicky Overbey passed away Saturday 10-4-14.
This from Randy Lindley's FB page:
"I wanted to inform you that Dicky Overbey went home, peacefully, to be with the Lord at 10:26 this morning with Dee Jee Overbey, Amber Digby Lindley, and myself at his side, surrounding him love. We want to thank you for all of the love and support you've shown the family. It means more than you know. Please continue to keep Dee Jee in your thoughts and prayers as she continues to face the days to come. And thank you, Dicky, for the gift you've given to all of us. It will remain with us forever."
Dicky was my favorite Steel Guitarist . . . . I will always cherish the friendship he & I had for many years.

Sorry to hear about Dickey. I got into his playing watching all the Amber videos on YouTube. What a player he was; got the best tone out of a Sho-Bud I have ever heard. he will be missed. |

First heard him when I was 11 years old with Ronnie Milsap on an Emmons PP. Was always a huge fan. _________________ RETIRED

Ironically, I met him at my friend Larry Self's "Music Store" who also just passed on. He had a black Shobud Pro something he wanted Larry to sell for him. I didn't really know who he was but he mentioned (in passing) that he played with Milsap for a while but at the time was painting houses in New Symrna, Fl. I went home and found some old Milsap records, "Live" (i think) that I saw his name on and to my surprise it really was him. He played a few songs that day on that steel of his, one of them was "Yesterday" and man the hair on my arms stood up. I don't know what he was doing painting anything but from what I understand got back into the music scene. Such a loss, I wish I could have talked to him more. I mean other than the way he played that day he struck me as some guy who was really nice that played steel better than me. Most steel players play better than I do so what did I know. My thoughts and prayers are out to his family, friends and his band.

As an E9 stylist he is right up there with Lloyd Green,Jay Dee Maness and Buddy Emmons.I sat at his feet at the after hours show in St.Louis in 2004 and couldn't take my eyes off his hands.I knew someday I'd be glad I snapped this photo.

RIP Dickey
I had the unfortunate task of announcing this at the Route 66 KS Steel Guitar show this past weekend.
I could feel the air go out of the room.
I simply do not have anything else just RIP Dickey

My condolences to Dicky's family and close friends.
I was fortunate to see him play at ISGC and he blew me away.
And the line up watching him was a scary great crew of players.
He was smoking.
RIP Dicky and prayers for the family. _________________ DLD, Chili farmer. Plus bananas and papaya too.
