I found this Recording King guitar for sale, and was wondering if anyone knew who made it.
I understand some Recording Kings were made by Gibson, some by Regal, and possibly others.
Any ideas? This is the only photo available.

That one's a Regal. The fret markers and pickup are quintessential Regal. All the Gibson-built ones I've seen had a plainer variant of the Charlie Christian pickup, though a few might have P13s, and a different body shape. I agree that those are modern tuners. |

Found this one on a different site. Same body shape, but different finish and pickup style.
The one in the first post is $279, this one is only $199. Any opinions?

That's a replacement pickup and a replacement jack. You can see the bump near the treble-side knob where a hard-wired cord was attached. |

Nah, Chris. I was thinking about buying at least one of them. Especially if they were Gibson-made.
I've recently freed up some space in my instrument collection.
One's at Guitar Center, the other's at Music-Go-Round.

In my opinion, the second one is much cheaper than the first one.
They're both made by Kay from what I've been able to find. _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

Hard to tell without a closeup, but the pickup assembly on the first one looks quite similar to what one finds on Gibson BR-4's, 6's and 9's. |
