| Just picked up a couple of used amps. One of them, in addition to having minimally scratchy pots, also does a little "static" thing when I move my volume pedal. Without the volume pedal it is fairly quiet,,,,(the volume pedal is perfectly quiet plugged into everything else). |

| Could be the jack(s) that the volume pedal plugs in to. Spray some DeOxit on the jack's contacts and push a plug in and out several times to see if that tames it any. |

Radio Shack now carries some of the Caig Deoxit line, as does Parts Express. Someone else pipe in here and tell him which formulation to use...

Sonny,
Have you tried a different pot-type pedal feeding that amp? The only time a noisy pedal shows up is when there is voltage across the pot. (this is why you don't hear the scratchy sound. . . unless you're picking the strings.)
I suspect a leaky cap in the preamp stage of the amp is letting a small amount of dc voltage back-feed to the pedal. Another pot-type pedal will probably do the same thing. . . with that amp.

Hey thanks guys,,,I googled Deoxit and found info. Yes, it's available at Radio Shack.
Craig, I think you may be right about the bad cap. There is no noise when it is plugged in direct,,like to my lap steel. But when any one of several volume pedals is in the chain,,,get the static y noise. I don't have much in this amp,,,,and I think it will be a good light weight amp for steel (Studio Pro 60),,,,I may send it to Peavey for refurb. Or maybe a Peavey service center that is near by. |

If that IS the problem, it should be an easy fix for most amp guys.

Craig has hit on the most likely problem. Change the cap.
I recently fixed my POD X3 because of a bad cap, but it wasn't on the signal input, it was on the power connection. I was getting what sounded like a ground loop hum but could rotate the power plug and it would come and go. The power input on a POD is 12VAC but there is a cap connected to one side of the power input connector. Replaced the cap and no more problems. |

| Well,,,,took this little baby apart,,,,cleaned it up, soaked those pots (along with everything else,,,LOL) down with DeOxIt,,,,,put it back together,,,,,QUIET as a mouse!!!!! Doesn't sound as good for PSG as I had hoped,,,(read some earlier post on the forum that were positive for the Studio Pro 60 and 40 for PSG). Not sure if this is the original 12" speaker (seems to make up about half the weight of this amp) has a big square magnet on the back,,,no name,,just some red numbers/letters combination. I'm wondering if some of the newer generation speakers would help the sound for PSG? It is a studio pro 40,,,,has tons of volume for small venue or practice and is great for the few non-pedal things I play,,,,very easy on the back,,,definitely a keeper for those gigs!!. Wonder if they could be upgraded,,,chips, speakers etc? Seems Peavey stopped making these in about 1989. |

| Further research indicates this speaker is a 67 series Eminence 12" speaker,,,,,sure is heavy. Wonder how that EM 12-C mentioned in another thread to update the NV 112 would effect this little Studio Pro 40? |
