Any thoughts on what tuning Mr. Roulette is using here?

He has a weird tuning; it's an A7, but with a high G for the 8th string. If I recall correctly, he also has unison low As for strings 6 and 7. _________________ Lots of stringy things, many of them slidey. |

I think that's correct. The doubled A strings give him a cool bass sound and the thin string on the outside of the tuning give him opportunities for some interesting chord voicings. If that string were in proper order it would be in the middle of the neck. I think the rest of his tuning is 1-3-5, like a dobro, but pitched in A. So, from 8 to 1 it would go b7 (hi pitch)-1-1-3-5-1-3-5. |

Thanks much. gentlemen.
His forward slant to make the 9th or 13th or whatever it was makes a bit more sense now. _________________ Excel D10 8&4, Supro 8, Regal resonator, Peavey Powerslide, homemade lap 12(a work in progress) |

I really dig Freddie. He's one of the true originals on steel guitar! _________________ Lots of stringy things, many of them slidey. |

I agree, Bob.
I heard a track on album in 1972 by Chicago Blues Allstars and I wondered who that was until the internet came around.
Like John McLaughlin said about Alan Holdsworth,
"if I could figure out what he was doing, I would copy it." _________________ Excel D10 8&4, Supro 8, Regal resonator, Peavey Powerslide, homemade lap 12(a work in progress) |
