So, I noticed that Peterson announced sweetened tuning as an upgrade to their iStrobosoft tuning app. I paid l $10 or $15 a few years ago for the original application and have it loaded on my iPhone and my iPad. Like many others, I also bought their Strobo-flip, but the iPhone is always with me. Alas, no sweeteners, though.
I've been waiting for this upgrade for quite sometime...I couldn't wait to download It. Sadly, once the upgrade is installed, you get prompted to a screen where you are given several options and various sweetened tunings, including steel guitar....YAY, right? Nope, there's a catch. You have to pay another $14.99 for it.
I know Peterson has been a huge supporter of steel guitarists, and I regularly hear stories of them stepping up with service, etc. But really, another charge for an upgrade that should have been included in original software in the first place? I'll just continue to use my ClearTune app. _________________ Clinesmith consoles D-8/6 5 pedal, D-8 3 pedal & A25 Frypan, Pettingill Teardrop, & P8 Deluxe. |

While I can kinda sympathize, I think I'd just sweeten it old school.
If your numbers of choice aren't available, and it won't let you load them, write them down, set your tuner for ET, and tune til the tuner tells you that you're X cents sharp or flat. Presto. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Thanks Lane. I have my numbers loaded into Cleartune, so I'm okay. The sweetened tunings came pre-loaded in my Strobo-flip. The app should've included them as well. _________________ Clinesmith consoles D-8/6 5 pedal, D-8 3 pedal & A25 Frypan, Pettingill Teardrop, & P8 Deluxe. |

I worked with a Peterson rep for a while back around the 1st of the year. The app was not accurate when comparing to my new Peterson StrobOPlus.
I tried several suggestions from the Peterson rep. He asked for samples and the actual string tones so he could investigate. That was in January and I haven't heard from them since.
I also have the Cleartone and it works so even though I bought the Peterson app, I've dumped it. |

Rick, do you have the numbers you loaded into Cleartune and would you mind publishing them here on the Forum? _________________ 1977 Sho~Bud D10 ProIII Custom; Sho~Bud SD10 The Professional ; ETS S10 5x5;

I have a couple tuners on my Iphone and then in my music studio I have a Korg OT and a Stroboplus that stay in the system. I can say I have seen a lot of inconsistency with the iphone. A couple times when the iphone said right on, but didn't sound right, and I checked it on the other tuners they were as much as 15 cents off. I suspect it is probably my iphone5 microphone as being the culprit not the software. I have a 6 plus on order so I will see how that does. _________________ Die with Memories. Not Dreams.

Niels, I have a Peavey Guitar adapter for my iPhone5. It doesn't matter if I plug a guitar cord into the adapter or the mic in the phone, the app can still be off with a regular tuner.
I passed all this to Peterson but that's the last I've heard from the iPhone app person. |

I use the strobe flip and the download and actually like the download the best. I like the Emmons tempered tuning which is like the OE 9 except I sharpen the E's 2 cents. The Emmons tuning is a little,different than the sweet OE 9 and the download shows the sharp and flat cents. This is only an opinion of what I like and works for me. I think Lane said it right tune with harmonics and when you get your 4th string right and bring your other octaves in by ear it works. |
