Holes On Foot Pedals

The foot pedals on my steel have 2 holes in them.Right now the ball is in the top hole--nearest the cross bracket.I have top mount ball joints and I sometimes find it a problem to connect them to the balls as they hit the bracket.
Would moving them to the bottom hole make the action harder or softer,and what if any problems might moving them cause?
All replies will be greatly appreciated.

Moving out would be harder. Moving would cause no problems other than being harder but how much harder is something you will just have to try.

I had a Dekley and I hated how much harder is was when I moved the rod out to the next position.

My Dekley does the same. I moved the ball joints to the outside hole and fount the pedals just way too stiff.

It's pretty much like Dick said, try it both ways and see how u like it. There's no rule that says u can't use a combination of inner and outer positions either, just go with what works and feels good to YOU. Winking

It's a simple matter of physics. The torque on the pivot is equal to the downward pull of the rods mutliplied by the distance of the ball joint from the pivot. If you use the inner hole there is more weight for you to push down than in the outer hole. The amount of work you're going to do is the same, but with the outer hole you have a lighter push through a further distance.
They put two holes there intentionally, so that you can choose whether to push the pedals further and softer, which gives you greater control over the string tension, or to push the pedals harder for a shorter distance.
There's no right or wrong. It depends on your playing style. Winking
