Thanks so much everyone for all the nice emails, texts and phone calls.....As you get older, you sure are thankful for so many things and appreciate and live every day to the fullest....It is an honour to win the 2014 CCMA Steel Guitar Player of the Year Award in Edmonton....It has been a great ride and just would like to take a moment to thank all the wonderful people that have been by my side on that long and winding road...I need to thank Reece Anderson , who took me under his wing in 1973....I drove from Ontario to Dallas and spent 7 months studying under him....he became a great friend and taught me so much about life and music....sure miss him...I also spent a week with the great Doug Jernigan in 1976....it was such a great week and he taught me a lot......On my return from Dallas, a day later I get a call from Ian Tyson to join the infamous Great Speckled Bird band,on his National TV show....we backed all the American Artists on his weekly TV show...So many great Country Artists of that era .....that was real Country Music.....at that time I got a call from Gordon Lightfoot to play on his record, Rainy Day People was the first single....I joined his band and toured and recorded with him for 16 years......travelled the world, met so many great fans, and was fortunate to play some of the most famous concert halls in the world...Carnegie Hall, Royal Albert Hall, LA Amphitheatre, Redrocks, Hollywood Bowl, Greek Theatre....With Belushi, Akroyd and Chevy Chase on Saturday Night Love, Midnight Special.....movie scores, jingles and so many Great Canadian Country Artists.....our Swing band. Www.thewesternswingauthority.com was also honoured with 2 CCMA Awards...Duo/Group and Roots Artist awards....fiddle Player,Shane Guse, won for Fiddle Player of year as well.....we performed on the CCMA legends Show backing all the artists, Invictus/On Ramp Record party and Gala Event....also thanks to Gary Rittenberry for getting my new Rittenberry Prestige guitar finished for the Awards...it is one of the finest, well built guitars I have ever played...and built by a great guy.....pics to follow.... The WSA new cd is being mixed and is sounding incredible.....inspired by the Timejumperss....6 great originals...great classic swing tunes....and I wrote a Steel Instrumental....almost like a Jimmy Bryant/Speedy West.....thanks to my family and wife, couldn't have done it without your love and support and my little Grand Girls, Bapa's biggest fans.....and to Lloyd Green, Buddy Emmons, Paul Franklin and so many more of my fellow steelers, love you all .....all the best. Ed

Pee Wee; Kudo's on your CCMA, if it's your first it's long overdue. The Edmund Fitzgerald is a classic example of your musicianship. You are in the alumni of an era of Canadian Steelers that include Buddy Cage, Neil Flanz, Bob Lucier, Ron Dann, Stevie Smith, Rusty Walker, Dennis Delorme etc. you guys were all involved in jingles, records & TV shows nation wide. What an inspiration you have all been to me as I was trying to learn how to play. Thank you one & all. _________________ I thought Nashville was the roughest, but I know I’ve said the same about them all.
I received my education, drivin through the Nation listenin to Paul!.. ( Franklin that is! ) |

Congratulation's Ed! You deserve this so much. I can only echo what Mike has said here. You were 1 of my steel heroes when I first started and you still are! I think you are playing better than ever and your taste, tone and execution are inspiring. (You sound great on the new guitar) Folks, if you ever get a chance to see Ed with the WSA, do it. This is the best band in Canada. All the best, Dale |
