Have you had a kick in the teeth you just never get over in your PSG playing career?
You know when just instantly after you’ve hit it big it all comes tumbling down so quickly that you didn‘t even get a good taste of it but you have that bitter after taste in your mouth the rest of your life.
Well the George Strait “Cowboy Rides Away” thing brought it all back.
It happened to Bo when he was playing on tour with Terry Bullard and the big concerts were just around the next bend and George Strait knocked the wheels off the Bus dooming Terry and Bo to a life out west of House gigs and the Caravan circuit.
Listen all the way thru the song and then you can read the short sad story at the end.

It was me, Scooter, Terry and Darrell in the Bullet Band at that time. Those were the good old days!!!
I still remember traveling in that old Greyhound.

If I remember right I think I started out with an old Fender Bandmaster Head and 4 ten cab when I was just playing guitar and then bought a Session 500 and used it most of the time when I started playing steel.
I also had a Randell steel guitar amp I might have used some. I'm sure there were others because I was never happy with any of them, it's hard to remember that far back.
The last time I played with Terry was at the Blue Waters at Elephant Butte Lake in New Mexico.
At that time I know I was using a little Gallien Krueger ML 250 into the Board (loved that Amp).

What was the sad story? I read the part at the end, but I wouldn't think being mistaken for George Strait was a bad thing.

Putting the best song on the backside is going to kill your front side. If “Amarillo by Morning” had been on the front side of Terry’s Record it would have move up the charts farther and faster to the point that it would not have been wise and risky for George to compete.

George would have looked like the imitator.

“Amarillo by Morning” was on the backside of the song of Terry’s that was up to #24 on the charts but the stations started playing the backside of (Amarillo By Morning) and it was gaining ground all over the country and he was seeing some interest from bigger labels.

Anyway the song was just getting on the charts when George came out with the song with a big record label and it started way up on the charts ending Terry's move up the charts.

Then to the big labels Terry was just another George strait imitator even though I don't think they sound even close.

Being labeled as an imitator is a recording career ender in this business and dashed Terry's hopes and my ride along with him. Dooming us to house gigs and bar tours.

To me that is a sad story!
