Read on Facebook that Peavey is "releasing" a new steel guitar amp in 2015.

Anyone that have any more information about this?

Given that Mike Brown frequents this forum and didn't answer Malcolm's post, I'll draw the inference that information remains under embargo.

I remember seeing something about Peavey was working on a new steel amp months ago. Considering the Nashville 112 is a "mature" product, it is about time for a new Peavey steel amp.

Really interested which way they go , and more importantly what features it could have at an affordable price. The boutique amps are just way out of my price range.

I think it's about time that Peavey gives us a good tube amp for steel. Way past due. I am using the Valve King with great success, but one designed for steel with a 15 inch speaker would get my attention.

Hopefully it will be 110 watts, 15" speaker, and weigh in at 20 lbs... Shocked

If their steel products are anything thing like their standard 6 string products they're very very slow in coming out.

I hope they take the line that Milkman has with the half and half..

Tube preamp, class "D" power section.

Peavey has both those pieces of technology in their kit bag.

Valve King PreAmp + DECA power section = Golden...

I propose they call it the DigiValve.

I'm seeing a Rack Mount Unit with an optional head only case OR a BW NEO equipped 1-15 cabinet.

A cool option would be a 12 + 15 combo cabinet wired out for stereo.

It should be stereo but the power amp inputs are chained unless you hook up a stereo effects unit into the effects loop at which point it splits to Left and Right.

200 Watts in bridged mode but if you plug in an extension cabinet it splits left and right at 100W each.

All in the sub $500 price range.

Or at least those are my thoughts...

Smile

Flattering to think that Peavey would model their amps after mine… but why not just get the real McCoy? Very Happy

Because you can't get hand wired quality components for $500?

You don't supposed they are building a Nashville 112 Split after my design, do you?

Whatever they produce, it would surprise me if it had any tubes in it. Look at the Peavey history on Steel Guitar amps and they have all been solid state.

There are those that "must have" tubes and then there are those such as myself who are perfectly happy with solid state (for steel). If I were still playing lead guitar it would have to be a Fender tube amp.

Could there be a correlation between the rumors of a new steel amp being introduced by Peavey and the drastic price reduction on the Nashville 112's currently being offered by the major retailers? Deep price cuts are occasionally intended to reduce existing inventory preceding the announcement that an item is being phased out of production.

I'd be surprised to see a new steel amp. The market just doesn't seem large enough for a high volume manufacturer. Im guessing they need to sell thousands of units to recover the R&D costs. There's a ton of used peavey steel amps available at really reasonable prices as well. It's hard to imagine conditions are optimal for a new steel amp. I'd love to be wrong.

Light weight, Good reverb and delay would be nice. If not, a rack space to put in effects would be nice.

Maybe Mike Brown will post something. Mike ?

Steve, the original comment on Facebook was quoted as being from from a Senior Peavey Manager.

Peavey has supported the steel community over the years with amps, even though the market is very small. They are the only "mass produced" steel guitar amp vendor. There has been an upturn in excellent boutique amps, but many cannot afford them.

Which says to me "Don't look for details or official news yet." If the "senior Peavey Manager" wouldn't give his/her name, it's still under wraps, possibly still in Beta testing.
I'd say, since no announcement came at Scotty's, look for teaser details in the run up to Christmas (Hell, possibly even Christmas preorders), and full details at official launch.
I'm with Jack: Hartley has supported the steel community damn near from day 1, and ever since 73 or 74, they have ALWAYS had at least one steel amp in the product line, occasionally TWO. At commodity amp prices.
I'll also say this: except for speaker issues and power switch on my LTD, my Peavey gear has never failed me, while TWICE with Fender gear I've had to go home for a spare.

Could someone post the link to the Facebook announcement?

I very much doubt this will be a response to the Milkman or even the Quilter. I'm guessing they'll want to retrieve the market they might have lost to the Roland Cube series. Or it will fall somewhere between the 400$ cube and the 1400$ Quilter. In any case, the more the merrier.

I'm a big fan of peavey gear for steel. I appreciate their history of support of the steel community. I've owned many, currently own three, and have played hundreds of gigs on them. I've played more gigs on Peavey gear than any other, by a wide margin. I'm in no way knocking Peavey. They have rarely let me down, one failure out of hundreds of gigs. When my amp went down on a job nobody in the band could believe it. Collectively, all of us had never seen a Peavey malfunction.

The service was fast, dirt cheap, and they fixed more than I asked. I don't think the amp was still covered in warranty, and they fixed it for free. Outstanding customer service in every way. The fact that Michael Brown is a an active forum member is a plus as well.

My remarks are not intended as a negative towards Peavey. Just an observation of the realities of the market conditions. I'd love to be wrong about it, and would be really interested in whatever they may offer in the future. Only time will tell.

Alex, the quote came from a very senior management of Peavey in a phone call to a very well known and respected steel builder.Since I don't know if the recipient of the call wants it to be public I will not publish it without his permission. It was mentioned in a posting he made to his followers on FB.

I agree. The market for good steel guitar amps for the amount of players would make me think that the rumor is not true. But, you never know. Like the steel guitar market is now, I think the amp market is over-saturated too.

I'm not real excited if they do. I don't need a new amp. My 1984 Nasville 400 is just getting broken in. Laughing
