I was unaware that Garth Brooks had attained first name status only ("Garth").
I was thinking it could have been Garth Hudson, formerly of The Band. _________________ Mark |

We'll, the earlier reply could have said "Bruce", and we all would have known. At least I'm not a mega fan, and didn't refer to Mr. brooks as "lower case g with a circle around it", which is apparently his logo these days. Maybe we should call him "the artist formerly known as Garth (Brooks)" _________________ Franklin D10 8&5, Excel D10 8&5. Both amazing guitars! Really? The guy has sold more albums than almost anyone in history here in the states. 3rd all time to the Beatles and Elvis in the US. |

I thought he retired and stopped touring...like the Judds and everyone else who had goodbye concerts...
Maybe he heard Don Henley say "there's big money in I'm back concerts" _________________ Emmons L-II , Fender Telecasters, B-Benders , Eastman Mandolin ,

He had always said he was taking time off to be with family. It was never a permanent retirement. |

Not only is he not 3rd, he's also behind Shania Twain on the list !
Funny thing about sales facts... _________________ Emmons L-II , Fender Telecasters, B-Benders , Eastman Mandolin ,

I've got 6 years before my youngest goes off to college - then I'm going to do a come-back tour. _________________ Franklin D10 8&5, Excel D10 8&5. Both amazing guitars! Bruce played great steel on Garth's records. His steel solo on "Learning to Live Again Is Killin' Me" is awesome! I taught myself how to play the solo, and "That Summer" and Shameless" both have awesome steel intros! "She's Every Woman" also features great steel

Yep. Lots of great playing on those albums. I've always like the sound he had on those albums too. |

getting personal are we ?
the list above is certifications for distribution, NOT sales, and even states that...thats an old label trick, release an album , have distribution create 1,000,000 units and it comes out #1 for the week on the release date...
Did we all not wonder why Billboard states a record comes out in the #3 spot this week..on the release date ? It's based on certificates of distribution not actual sales...the funny part about those certificates is they don't report how many were returned to the distributor...then sold to Columbia House ! Where do we all think those 99 cent albums come from ? returns to distributors...
GB is a fine artist but he is NOT one of the top 3 album sellers in the USA for all time. The numbers don't add up..Worldwide he is # 138 on the list as well . I think the confusion is he was one of the top CONCERTS booked in the US, not # 3 in record sales... _________________ Emmons L-II , Fender Telecasters, B-Benders , Eastman Mandolin ,

#138? By what account? He has 6 Diamond certified albums. And if he was purely a product of shady business by the labels then why are they not doing the same for every other hot artist? Why do Brooks numbers come out so high?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_music_artists
Even this list has him at 14. |

http://tsort.info/music/faq_album_sales.htm
with a very good disclaimer of how sales are logged..
Certifications of distribution is not SHADY business ..it's a method to anticipate sales and to keep the artist in the spotlight...would you rather have the new artist release come out in the top 10 or the bottom 200 ?
I like the language here:
"The list of best-selling music artists includes artists with claims of 75 million or more record sales in multiple third-party reliable sources. The claimed sales figures and the total certified sales figures (for each country) within the provided sources include sales of albums, singles, compilation-albums, music videos as well as downloads of singles and full-length albums. The artists in the following tables are listed with both their claimed and certified sales figures and are ranked in descending order"
Sounds like a lawyer in court...
thx

And to your question of "getting personal are we?". My response was to your initial post which reads a bit different now after its 6th revision. |

I didn't edit my intitial post and I was not being personal, so I don't know what you are referring to.
I did edit other posts as even I didn't understand them... _________________ Emmons L-II , Fender Telecasters, B-Benders , Eastman Mandolin ,

I think we can agree there's great players and production on his albums. He also has lots of pictures of himself singing to huge crowds, but to me his legacy will always be that headset mic. I heard somebody say "hey, Britney Spears is using that Garth Brooks mic". _________________ Franklin D10 8&5, Excel D10 8&5. Both amazing guitars!
