Anybody ever see a set of tuning machines that have a groove, or a catch built on to make changing strings fasters? Strings could come with a normal ball on one end and a metal tip like on fender bullet strings on the tuner end. They could just lock into a "v" type catch like on the changer fingers of the steel.
This idea may be fixing something that isn't broke, but Imagine if you could just hook it and wind it in 1 second.
Anybody ever do this? Thanks

Problem most strings have to be cut at different lengths. I would hate to try to wrap the entire length of a #36 on my 10 th. string. _________________ Several custom steels. NV-112 Boss DD-7 |

Didn't Steinberger basses and guitars have strings with balls on both ends? _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Yeah I didn't think about the whole string length having to be wrapped. I guess things are just fine the way they are. haha I gotta stop posting every darn thought that crosses my mind.

The PRS six string guitars with the thumbscrew locks are awesome. These make string changing a breeze. The thumb screw provides plenty of holding power; the slotted screw head is misleading.

I put grover roto lockers on my project build and on my Fessy, only way to go IMO. |

Les, I don't have much luck with that method. Sometimes will cut the string and they are really hard to get off when rest ringing. _________________ Henry Matthews

If I'm not mistaken, Ronnie Bennett's steels have a method of "registering" the strings at the tuner end that clamps them in a jiffy, no lengthy winding or complicated stress-raising "string locking" methods needed like on Bob Westbrook's page.
I'm really surprised the steel community hasn't beat a path to Ronnie's door, but he's an unassuming man. _________________ Williams 700 series keyless U12,
