Man do I like that. You mind sharing your e13 tuning? You have c6 on the bottom neck?

Thanks

Thanks Ken. Here's the version of E13 I'm using.

E
C#
B
G#
F#
E
D
B

Strings 3 through 8 are the same as E9 pedal steel tuning. This E13 version has the 2 (F#), and that really makes it for me... a lot of lush dominant 7th and 9th sounds on the low end.

I have C6 on the back neck. Right now there are only 6 strings on that neck because I'm recording a bunch of 6-string C6 songs.

For this practice session I'm playing through a 15 watt Fender tube amp, Hilton volume pedal, lots of delay (Boss) and Holy Grail reverb.

Cool. Thanks Doug. I'm right on the cusp of buying a D8. Mostly because I've been listening to a ton of Time Warp Top Hands.

Very awesome setup and tone.

Merci!

This tuning is like Tom Morrell's 10-string tuning without his top two strings, and B on the bottom instead of low E.

Very nice Doug. Interesting for me too - I am also working on this tune as part of my country trio project. Depending on the song I play either bass or steel and for this one, I've opted for steel. We're following the Patsy Cline version but in the key of C.

Obviously I am playing behind a singer most of the time and I do not find this a great song for putting fills between the sung lines. I do have a nice solo growing though.

The biggest challenge I've found so far (after humorous comments from my band brothers) is to avoid making this one sound like a Christmas song! Very Happy

Thanks Paul, I agree that there is not much room for fills in this song. The vocal lines just keep going and going... Cool I've always enjoyed playing a solo in this one though. Funny that you should mention Christmas songs. One bandleader told me "everything you play sounds like a Christmas carol!" Cool

Hello Doug,
compliments for the touch, the sound and ..last but not least for the Tom Morrell's tuning!

My Question:-
This is the E13 that you will use in your next book?
(also for 8 Strings).

Kind Regards

"Cat" Marino

PS:- I would like a lot more practice session with this tuning Winking

Thanks Marino, I like this tuning, but it won't be in my upcoming book. Maybe in a future book.

Thnx Doug. I've not tried the song on E13 even though I tune mine exactly the same as your tuning; just on Bb13 & extended Levitt. So far I prefer extended Levitt. You inspired this hobby player.

Thanks all, I'm glad you like it. It's just a rough sketch showing some of the sounds available on E13.
