| Everyone agrees that a constant,,or consistent position at the guitar is important,,,but what about relative measurements,,i.e.seat height, players height, string height from floor,,,all relative to each other. I'm 6 ft tall, my seat is 21" high, the top of my strings are 30 1/2" from the bottom of the pedal bar. My thigh and lower arm (elbow to wrist) are pretty much parallel to floor. My guitar is tilted forward very slightly, just enough that the bar wouldn't roll off if laid behind the neck. Seems that the heel of my hand is positioned to block just over the pick up,,,maybe a little behind (exceptions when trying for a special sound) |

I'm not an advocate of any inch-type measurements or comparisons because they will vary considerably with the guitar, player, seat, as well as other factors, such as playing surface, the space you're alotted, etc. I feel what's really important is to be comfortable, so comfort ranks far higher for me than consistency.
Forearms parallel with the floor?
Nope, I don't place much stock in that one, either!

Notice that all of the pics show they have the wrist neither humping nor dipping: a centerline from elbow to base of fingers is straight.
THAT is crucial. If it humps or dips, hour carpal tunnel WILL cry for mercy.

| Hey,,,,just said MINE was,,,didn't say yours,,,,,or Buddy's,,,,or Lloyds was supposed to be. It was that "variable" that Mr. Hinson mentioned that I was referring to. There was some discussion on another thread regarding guitar height,,,,which is really relative to the other factors I mentioned,,,,and thought it might be interesting to see what was "relative" to others,,,,didn't really mean to start a "I'm right,,,you're wrong" war. |

Easy there Mr. Jenkins, nobody's at "war".  We're all about the same...in our differences. But I could see, possibly, some newbies digging out rulers and tape measures, and comparing their numbers to yours (or anyone else's). And, with those comparisons, comes the inevitable "Maybe I'm doing it wrong?". But, in our chosen common interest, there really is no right or wrong. That's all I was trying to say.  |

Basically, if you can sit at the guitar many hours a day, many days a week without pain, you're good. BUT some minor defects (the back of the guitar ¾" too high for instance), and you're just wounding yourself.

Actually I posted this for those "newbies" that post the questions,,,"I'm not comfortable,,,,can't reach the pedals good",,,,I think my seat is too high,,etc,,etc",,,,well,,,"how high is it?",,,,,"26"",,,,,hummmm,,,,"how tall are you?",,,,"5'1"",,,,,"how tall is your steel?",,,,29" to the top of the strings,,,it's a double neck",,,,,hhhuuummmmm,,,,"I think I know the problem".
There is no need to ask,,,or answer the questions regarding seat height, steel height, pedal height, lever spacing etc,,,,without taking other factors into consideration.
I was just trying to show the "relativity",,,using my measurements as an example ONLY,,,NOT,,,THIS IS THE WAY IT SHOULD BE!!,I guess there are always those who would take exception,,,or read something else into whatever we post,,,, |

| Mr.Jenkins my interpretation of your first post was that you where suggesting that your measurements where appropriate for all players 6 feet tall. Sorry but that was my interpretation at first reading. |
