I was in the neighborhood, so I stopped a GC today. They've had a GFI D-10 there for months and months. It's red, 8/4. They want $650. Probably would take less just to be rid of it. Are these any good? I'm not interested for myself, as I have a Kline Universal, but I thought someone else might be interested.

It does have what appear to be aluminum necks. I forget which pups. No pole pieces showing. It seems to be pretty light in weight. Couldn't play it cuz the strings were shot, some broken. It's a wankers' store, after all! [This message was edited by John Billings on 25 January 2004 at 01:26 PM.] |

I second the "grab it!"--particularly if its an Ultra model. Its a great deal even if its not. I had a GFI SD-10, and now a U-12 and I couldn't be happier. Gene Fields makes a superb product. |

Grab it! even if you DONT" like it (which you probably will), wyou could easily turn it around on here for double what you pay for it, or on ebay for the same. |

Unless there's some major problem with it, that is a SCREAMING deal.
I'm tempted to ask you for second chance at it if you decide not to get it, but I still have a big chunk to pay on my Emmons.
I'd love to have a GFI as a second D-10. |

Victor, go for it.....it's a high quality guitar, built well, smooth, trouble free, and this one's a bargain, especially since you reside in Europe. If and when you decide to sell it, you'll make some francs, or euros.

Victor, definately grab it. They are fine guitars. Even if it needs some work on it, I am sure some of your fellow Euroean steel buddies will help you get it perfect working order. Good luck. |

Well, it's in the living room. Gotta get strings, cuz all I've got are 12 string uni sets. It's an older model fer sure. It has aluminum necks. No "Ultra" name plate, just GFI. The pups are Barcus-Berry. All the alum seems to be coated with epoxy or something. The changer and the roller end are coated in black. The tuner casting is not one piece I can't see a name on the tuning machines. They kinda look like Schallers. It's got a volume and tone control, which may have been added on, as there's kind of a rough notch cut into the case to accomadate ( man! I can't spell anymore!) them. Doesn't appear to be the most recent GFI changer. Hope I didn't make a mistake buying this guitar. Wish I knew how to post pics, but if anyone thinks they can identify this guitar, I can email them the pictures.

Oh, yeah. After I told the salesman I wanted it, he wrote it up an then told me the case was extra. I looked him in the eye and said, "Don't do this to me!" He sold me the case for a penny. What a store! I mean, what on earth are they gonna do with a used steel case? |

You might notice that I edited my previous posts. I had said that the legs looked cheesy. Well I was very wrong! They're nice heavy aluminum. I'm just used to seeing heavy. chromed steel legs. They are nice and light, and I think that the weight of this guitar is quite nice. So all you GFI guys, please forgive me. This seems to be a very nice axe.

Sounds like the first GFI I had, only mine was keyless. I think Gene's first models had 4 hole bell cranks, then he went to the 6 hole, & then on the ultra model he changed the leverage on the C6th changer from the E9th, and maybe other differences, but I think the bell cranks are the same. IMHO best
keyless system going today! Not Barcus-Berry
pickups these days either.[This message was edited by Doug Seymour on 25 January 2004 at 04:57 PM.] |
