I have a D-6 Lap Steel, of this name, with little bakelite (?) nameplates which also say "made in England".
If I remember correctly, it has a date pencilled in under the p/up, around 1940 (it was a while ago I took it apart).
Sounds good, although (because it's only got 6 string necks) I don't use it a lot. Also has MASSIVELY wide string spacing (like 6 strings in same width as a 12 string).
Anyone know anything about this steel or about the company (presumably FHD was the company and Mohawk the model)
May be connected with Selmer, as it came with a wee Selmer amp at a car boot sale (a yard sale)
Thanks

Do you maybe have a typo in there?
FDH, if I remember right, stood for Francis, Day & Hunter, which was an English company, and you're right that there was some connection with Selmer - I seem to remember that the shop they had in Charing Cross Road changed from the one name to the other, sometime in the 60s or 70s (don't think it exists at all now...) I didn't know they made lap steels though (but I wasn't looking in the 1940s )

I think you must be right, Nick. I'm at work, away from the steel, but the typo is likely. Thanks for the info.
It's a nice looking Art Deco style guitar (like "skyscrapers" style), and is made of attractive wood.
