Don't have a lot of info on this item. Mandolin is a 12 string, with no name. It has a crack in back but does not affect the sound. But could be repair if need be. Apprised by USM music dept. and other sources for $900.00 - $1000.00, asking $600.00 plus shipping. Call 601-544-7486

Very cool! I'm not an expert, but I think that's actually called a "tipple".

Hi Joe,

See the O and S on the pickguard? That instrument was made by/sold by/marketed by Oscar Schmidt. I've mentioned all three "bys", because OS didn't make all their own instruments. Several other builders might have made them. Even though it has 12 strings, it's still a mando, but with with the right strings, could be tuned like a tiple.

Thanks for the information on the mandolin I was wondering why there are so many without a name on them. But, I guess the OS tells who may have build it.

It's actually a mandriola--triple course, mandolin tuning.

Oscar Schmidt marketed it, and/or sold it to a dealer. Who built it is still unknown, but probably not Oscar Schmidt.

You've got it right, Joe. It is a 12-string, four course bowlback mandolin, which can also be called (correctly) a mandriola or potato-bug style instrument, marketed by Oscar Schmidt. Unless it says who made it for Schmidt inside the bowl, you can't be sure.

Wow! Mandriola is a new word for me! And it's all unison stringing? No octaves? Neet-o!
