Topic: EPS 15C or Telonics TSNEO 15-4 For my Webb 614E |

Hi guys,
Please can anyone shed any light on my dilemma.
I already have an Eminence 15" 8hom neo speaker(1505?) in my Webb 614E, but I'm thinking of changing said speaker for a 4ohm speaker, which will drive my amp at its full potential (225 watts). So my thoughts are with either the EPS 15C or the Telonics 15-4, trouble is, which one? I know the speakers are basically made by Eminence but which one is going to sound best in a Tom Bradshaw Webb?

| Dave, i can only give you my experience with both of these fine products. I have used both speakers, and own the Eminence EPS-15C, in fact i have this speaker loaded in all my Rick Johnson cabs. I really don't notice a big difference between the two. Both are fine products, and made by the same company. As for asking Mr Bradshaw, respectfully, tom doesn't play your steel, or adjust your amp. Both will work, i wouldn't hessitate for a moment loading either one into my Webb. You can ask Tom, but i bet he tells you the same thing. Both are great products. Try to find someone who owns both, and play through them. OR.... do as i do, simply try the EPS-15C. I purchased mine through Parts Express, who would give me a refund if it doesn't work out. Thats the best way. |

According to Dave Beatty, the difference is that he started with the Eminence, did some research on a bunch of actual JBLs (he runs a pretty sophisticated electronics company), and now has his own version constructed to be closer to "the JBL sound".
He also ships the speakers already broken in, so you will hear what it really sounds like without having to play for 20 hours or so first...
I think both versions are not exactly "the JBL sound", for that, get a JBL - people have been pretty unified about that. But they are a lot lighter and newer....and "pretty close"

| From what I understand, the Webb was designed to be used with a JBL speaker and that's what I have in mine. When I got it, it had a Black Widow in it and I took it out. |

| I have a Jimmy Webb webb amp, and i still have the original JBL in mine. But if i needed to get a new speaker, i'd use either. I have played through both speakers, and as i said i own the EPS-15C, and played though the telonics speaker as well. Like i said, after all the hype, i can't tell much difference....Good luck on your new speaker. |

Thanks George, for the proper advice to someone seeking the sound that will satisfy them. The only way to know if a speaker exists that will satisfy you, is to employ that speaker in your equipment and in the place where you typically listen to your sound. Relying on others to tell you what you will like, rarely proves to be correct.
A big mistake by all musicians is to believe that the sound they hear (typically from an amp blasting in their ear that was placed just to one side of them on a stage) is the same sound that the audience hears. It isn't! If you want to know what you sound like to an audience, you would need to park your steel in the center of your audience and leave your amp on stage. Playing from that vantage point would let you know what your true sound was that your listeners hear. Granted; that will likely never be possible. The solution (if you are truly interested in discovering your true sound), is to rely on the ear of someone you trust to tell you if your sound is good. You may discover that the worst sounding speaker to you, may be the best sounding speaker to your friend and the audience.
So, the question is, who is the most important? The people who pay you to perform for them, or your pleasure with the sound you hear, a sound that few others may be able to hear?
Once I rigged up a microphone and placed it in the center of a dance floor and rigged up a head set to let me hear my "audience" sound (and that of the whole band). I was shocked to hear how awful (in my opinion) I sounded. I concluded that I played too loud and too much. As for my sound, if I set my volume, reverb and tone to sound good to my ear, it wasn't the sound that the audience heard. If I set it to what my head-set demanded, it didn't sound good to my ear. I think I opted to satisfy myself, rather than what my audience heard. I was selfish, but didn't lose the job over it!

Well said Tom and so many of the places anymore you almost sit on top of your amp. a professional sound person or another band member is very important. The tone changes a lot with distance from the speaker. MHO

Mr Tom Bradshaw makes the best amp in the world, the Webb!!!! My amp is Awesome!!! Thank you Tom, your expertise is second to none.

I replaced my original K-130-8 vintage Webb speaker with a Telonics 15-inch neo, sounds wonderful and weighs less.
