I'm sure this question has been asked many times before, so bear with me!
I heard 'Hey, Good Looking' played on the radio today,
and it reminded me how good the guitar solo was.
The last time I heard it was years ago, in my 'pre-steel guitar obsession' days.
Am I right in guessing it's a 6-string lap steel? And if so, what was the tuning...and of course, who was playing it?

Don Helms played the "Hey Good Looking" solo on his popular instruction book. The tuning is E6 with a high G# ( G# E C# B G# E) He probably played on the record too, but hank had a few other Steelers early on, including Jerry Byrd.
Don's version in the book is in the key of C. It's a nice fun tune to play and no bar slants needed!

Don would have used his double 8 string Gibson Console on the recording but on the solo (and most of the other stuff he played with Hank) he only used the 6 highest strings, so it can definitely be played on a 6 string lap steel.
