I have a Boss DM-3 Delay pedal that came with my steel.
I also have a Boss CS-3 I use with my Tele,& have the EH Nano Holy Grail Reverb unit I ordered from Tim last night-(well not yet)later in the week.
My question is, how do the comp/sus pedal and the delay and reverb interact?
I'm the poster child for having no idea how pedals work in conjunction with the PSG.My thoughts would be the comp. would take away from the Rev effect.
Shows you how much I know.
If anyone has a similar rig, could you give me a starting point,& how and what to tweak while searching for a tone I may like.
I apologize for having to ask for so much information,Ive had my PSG for 2 months and I want to be able to match some of the tones you Great players produce.I understand like any other instrument it involves 99% touch,I'm wanting to find a tone I really like.
Thanks again to all of you PSG players out there.
Sincerely,
Jeff |

Hi Jeff,
I can relate to the question you asked.
The link below to a you tube video with Bobbe Seymour using a Boss DD 3 on pedal steel might offer some more insight.
Hope it might be helpful.

Compressors should go BEFORE the volume pedal and reverb after (it sounds kinda weird to squash the "tail" with the volume pedal. Reverb gives an implied "spaciousness", and if you spike it with the pedal, you shrink the room your brain perceives).
I also don't think steel plays well with compression except as a song-specific effect. My fingernails give me all the "pop" attack that I need (you pick the note with your middle finger, banging the string off your tucked-under ring fingernail). _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
More amps than guitars, and not many effects |
