I have a BJS 7/8 tone bar and it is excellent. However, I would love to try a heaver bar just to see the difference and the feel in my hand . It seems that BJS bars are not available anymore so can someone advise on any suitable bar that I could try and where it would be available. Thanking you all so much for all the advice throughout my pedal steeling period. YOURS AYE JAMES TAYLOR -----SLANGE |

James,
Email Butch at BJS. His bars are still available. I recently bought from him. No problem.

James, ditto on what Ken suggested. Like you, I had the 7/8" bar and in fact used this size bar for about 35 years. I bought a 15/16" bar and a 1" bar...I've found that the BJS 1" bar is a better fit for my hand...If you get a chance, try the larger size before you buy...Good luck! Carl

James BJS also make the Hughey light bar which is a bigger 15/16th but weighs the same as the 7/8 bar .... I find it much easier to handle and it sounds fantastic. _________________ 14'Zumsteel Hybrid D10 9+9

I emailed Butch about a BJS bar just recently. He promptly returned my email and let me know what was available. He also instructed me to order through the website even though it says things are out of stock. I placed my order this evening. Hopefully my bar will be arriving some time this week. _________________ '80 Emmons P/P D10, '75 Emmons P/P SD10, Milkman Half and Half, BJS Bar, Telonics Volume Pedal,Steel Seat, G&L ASAT Classic Bluesboy |

Hi James,
I have a BJS John Hughey 15/16th 12 string bar that I was lucky enough to get last December, not sure how the weight compares to the standard 7/8th BJS bar.
From what I can gather BJS bars are still available, but you may have to wait to get exactly what you want.
I'm in Fife, don't know where you are, your previous posts would suggest the Highlands. You're quite welcome to come and try my bar if you fancy a wee journey down to Fife
PM me if you want to try it. _________________ "Nothing can ever be wrong about music" - D Allman

Thank you all so much once again and Malcolm, Micky and Geoff thanks for your further helpful advice. My first port of call is always Gerry Hogan when I need something. I phoned him last week and he told me he was sold out and although he has contacted the maker several times he has assumed they are not now available; but please notify him if they are still available. Gerry, believes them to be the best-- the BJS bars that is. Bye the way Geoff I live fifty miles north of Aberdeen in the bushes reached through terrible roads. We used to travel to Edinburgh once a month but as age has crept in we are not much on the move. Instead of a camper van I may get an ambulance . THANKING YOU ALL ONCE AGAIN JAMES TAYLOR SCOTLAND |

I had a friend who had an old ambulance he used as a camper van, unfortunately one of the cylinders used to cut out on occasion and it would run on the remaining 3 cylinders. A case of 3 cylinders on my wagon but I'm still rolling along
I have a friend who stays in the bushes just outside of Fogie, (Aberchirder), who I visit on occasion, but not for a few years now though.
Hope you get the bar you want _________________ "Nothing can ever be wrong about music" - D Allman

I got my 15/16 BJS bar today and it is a beautiful bar to handle. A little different to the 7/8 but you know I really love the difference. I will use both bars. Two personalities worth experimenting with and now in a permanent home. Thanks for everyone's help and guidance YOURS AYE JAMES TAYLOR |
