Playing outside with friends on a flat bed under the trees on a 90deg day. NOTHING sounds better than playing outside, to me. The Emmons and the Walker system were filling the valley with sweet sounds.

I always tell my students to "be in love with the sound of the steel". Today restored my love affair and brought smiles for miles to the other band members.

Merle Haggard said "if you don't love it, leave it" well I was on cloud 9 today, 42 years and counting.

Man, I know what you're saying! When it's right , it's right!
I love it when that happens. Unfortunately, picking in different places doesn't allow for that to happen a lot, but, when it does HooRah!

Ah, Larry, I thought you knew there is a reason that pedal steel players don't wear shorts on stage, you better go read the handbook again Rolling Eyes

I hate outdoor jobs, especially here in muggy Florida. I turn them down. I doubt that I've played 5 outdoor jobs in the last 30 years.

Dave, when it is 90 deg I do not even think I could pull on a pair of Levis, so the shorts worked great, both pair. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Isn't your title a little vague?

Found WHAT?

SGF Members have to read thro' the entire post just to see what it's all about. Doesn't that adversely affect bandwidth or something else that's very technical?

Larry, In the name of decency - build your self a "modesty panel" for the front, like Barbara Mandrell's.

You could photo-shop in a mural of regular Wrangler-clad legs w/ western boots Smile

I can generally tell in the first five minutes (out of an average two-year period) which guitar students are going to get a lot better faster, simply by asking them to play one note, and play with that one note. Louder, softer, sharper, mellower, snap the pick or ease it across the string; pick, fingers, thumb, hammer-on etc. If you don't like the way one note sounds, if it doesn't grab you, playing half a million notes (you don't like either) isn't going to be an improvement! Laughing

ALL of my favorite instruments to play - steel, slide guitar, fretless bass - are quite capable of sounding hideous, as are the other ones I don't play but love to hear - violins & girl singers. There's some sort of lesson there, maybe one of these decades I'll find out what.

I've found that hot humid outdoor gigs result in the best tone. But they're uncomfortable.
I expect the heat and humidity change the way sound propagates in the air.

Out there and lovin' it!

All seriousness aside, playing outside is fun.If you're working with a good big system and a good(but not necessarily big) soundman, you can get as loud as you like without ear fatigue. Winking

I do.

I learned that usually the people who want to take their clothes off should keep them on.
Too many HUGE pasty white wrinkled booties in one evening. BLECH!!!

I guess it's not all it's cracked up to be, Rick! Probably just as well, helps you keep your eyes on the instrument.

Played this past Friday and Saturday at the Oregon Country Fair a few miles outside of Eugene. It's been happening for some 30 years and clothing seems to be an optional thing. Quite often I was not watching my fret board.

Oh, what goes on, comes off, seen enough of that playing in the clubs. I remember a girl said to her dance partner one night," I'd like to get into your pants". Next thing I saw, they were exchanging clothes in the middle of the dance floor, she was wearing his pants. Guess we know who wears the pants in the family. Laughing
