I worked out an instrumental version of this great tune years ago on the guitar from an old Ventures album called Plays the Country classics, but i have never heard it played on the steel as an instrumental...seems like it would be a good one done by don helms on the non pedal, but i have never heard it with or without pedals. Anybody have a source or play this one . If so, please post it or a link....thanks

Bill Frisell and Greg Leisz (on pedal steel) do a lovely version of this song on Bill's CD "Disfarmer".

I'm sure it's not impossible but is somewhat difficult to do on lap steel. I've never heard Don Helms do more than fill on it.

Jerry Byrd played steel on the original Hank Williams cut. And he did a great job on what I believe to be his 7 string Rick bakelite.

I've played C6th most of my life and yet you come up with string combinations that I've never even tho't about. Your phrase containing the open top string with the barred lower notes is really nice.

You've put a lot of personality into this arrangement and I commend you for it.

THANKS for sharing!

Roy my friend,
I just found your post about Lovesick Blues...thats a great version that you play...just what I was looking for...thanks !!! BTW, was that you or Larry Lynch doing the Chet style picking in the background ? I dont know why I was so slow getting around to finding your response....thanks again ! What songs are on your Hank Williams course,,,I might be interested in ordering it, but for $45 I would need to know what songs I am getting. Is there a downloadable version of your book of tabs ?
Thanks in advance. Hope you and Larry are doing well !

Hi Larry,
I have not seen L. Lynch in a long while. He is not in very good health and not out very much.
I play both guitars on the Lovesick Blues clip.
There are 14 songs all steel instrumentals on the 6 string
lap steel. The top hits he put out. I tried to get them all. Smile
There is no downloadable version of the collection.
It comes with the CD and matching tablature.
Email me direct or a Forum email if you wish further particulars.
Nice to see you on the Forum and still active musically.

Roy

Roy I hope you are doing well these days. I was just practicing this song this morning and thought of you...you have such great tone and touch in all of your playing...a real inspiration to me...I keep working on that tune and also the B part, or whatever you call it...."I'm in love, I'm in Love with a beautiful gal..."

Thats such a great tune and I am surprised I havent seen any versions on youtube played on lap steel...
maybe I should request that in a new thread.

thanks again for all you do for the steel guitar community...I still love playing my T8 stringmaster and my deluxe 8 lap steel.

Hi Larry,
Thanks for the nice comments. I might do a Part 2 of Lovesick Blues sometime soon featuring the Minor Bridge
and make the song complete. Will share it with you if you don't already have it worked out by that time?
You sure have some beautiful instruments and it's good to see you using and playing them. That's what they are for. Smile
Good luck and keep in touch.

Roy

I did a dry take on Chorus for Lovesick Blues for Larry and will share it with all here on the Forum. I use a Gibson 6 string lap tuned C6 standard.. E on top. Starts at the 12th fret in Am. Most will be able to get this by listening and tinkering. Smile
