I got a chance tonight to see Bobby Osborne and his band tonight at a bluegrass festival and it was a great show. If Bobby comes to your town I strongly encourage going to his show. He is still a great singer and his band is really good and they are all extremely talented and he let them all do a solo song or instrumental. They are one of the groups that still dress up to do a show and you really get a great show from them. I know he is on a tour for his 50th Opry anniversary and appears at the opry frequently. I was just really impressed with his show and wanted everyone to know that it is definitely worth seeing if you like good bluegrass music.

Hey Daniel, I got the chance to see Bobby a couple of years ago here in Virginia. It was a cool show as I was wanting to get my mandolin autographed and on the show was Bobby along with Jesse McReynolds and Rhonda Vincent so I got three good autographs. You're right about Bobby's bands dress code. They were all in suits and ties and cowboy hats and it was an outdoor festival and most of the audience was in shorts and casual clothes.......JH in Va.

I'm betting he had a dobro in the band? he's got great steel playing on some of his recordings. Jeff Newman was on one of his more recent albums, and of course Hal Rugg on Rocky Top and others. and the Big E on some Osbornes stuff in the 70s.

Scott, I have the Osborne Bros. LP "From Rocky Top to Muddy Bottom" and it's the Big E on "Rocky Top....JH in Va.

Pretty sure Hal was on the original and the one with Buddy is a re-recording?

Hal was on almost every record from 67 (Rocky Top) and possibly a bit earlier through about 76. Buddy was on the electric revival stuff after that mostly, but they did go back to acoustic well before Sonny's retirement.

there's also a live album with Hal and Leon Rhodes, from the early 80s i believe.
