It is sad to learn of the passing of another legend. I've always liked Horace Silver's music, his piano playing, and his approach to composition. He came from the sometimes unforgiving and technically edgy background of hard bop (he was known as the inventor of hard bop piano) that always informed his very accessible, almost "pop jazz" of the times, music. I think that little edge of harmonic sophistication really made his songs interesting to listen to and fun to play. And most important, his music had heart. _________________ www.susanalcorn.net
