I'm getting distortion when I play anything with a super fast attack. Steel sounds clean acoustically. Happens even with the volume pedal back, so it's not that I'm overdriving the amp input. Same problem if I listen to the DI, so I know it's not the amp anyway. All cables test fine and work fine with other guitars. Here is my setup:

Emmons SD10
TrueTone pickup
Hilton volume pedal

Anyone experienced this and/or can anyone advise?

Thanks in advance!

Just because you have the pedal pulled back doesn't mean transients aren't hitting the bejeebers out of the input. And is your DI before the amp?
It'd be nice to know your amp settings (including whether you use input 1 or 2), and what kind of amp.
If you don't want to look at the amp, the biggest culprit might be in distance from pickup to strings. Try going from 3.5 mm (about 2 quarters) almost 5 (like 3 quarters). Possibly even lower.
Come to think of it, try that first

I had the same problem some yrs ago when i had a truetone, i sent it back to jerry and he sent me a new one, fixed the problem but i really dont know if it was my bad soldering to the jack or if it WAS the pickup, still a mystery

Try it with a different volume pedal.

Thanks for the responses. In the end I realized I had a guitar cable (and not a TRS cable) running into my pro tools interface. (duh).
