What is the string spacing on Excel S-12 guitars? Is it fairly wide (like Sho-Bud and Sierra), or narrow (like MSA and Williams)?

The only Excel S-12 I ever played had very closely spaced strings. In fact, a 10-string bar would just about cover all 12 strings. This was about 10 years ago. I don't know about the newer guitars.

| My keyless U-12 Excel Superb which was built maybe two years ago has excatly the same string spacing as my 1994 Sierra Session U-12 - that is - 11/32" at the bridge and 9/32" at the nut. Other engineering specs of interest are: Scale length: Sierra - 25", Excel - 25.5".Bellcranks: Sierra - 4 hole,Excel - 6 hole.Cross shafts: Sierra - square, Excel - hex.Raises/lowers: Sierra - 3R/2L, Excel - 7R/5L(one of the Excel's 7 raises comes hooked up to raise assist springs but it could be removed and used for an additional raise).There's also a very sophisticated body flex compensator that comes standard on the keyless guitars and it works great.I spoke to Mitsuo last summer when he was visiting L.A. right after Scotty's and he is thinking about adding interchangable pickups ala Sierra and MSA.I have a Jerry Wallace 17.5 on mine and couldn't be happier.I consider it to be the finest steel I've ever owned. -MJ- |

DITTO ETC!! My new Superb 14 just arrived. I just do not have the proper words to fully describe this unit. Workmanship in all aspects is SUPERB, and even much better than that. The change locking lever has individual tuning rods which are not attached to the lever that lowers the Es to Eb in the E9 tuning, giving those players to individually "temper" each tuning without affecting the other. Neat. Also, the string spacing width at the keyless tuning head has been increased to almost the same spacing as at the bridge. And a very major improvement on the radius (top) of the changer fingers has been installed on this guitar. As mentioned earlier, the "cabinet-drop" mechanism works great. Neat, again!! Head and shoulders above any I have ever had and/or played-for what thats worth, anyway.
Deserves a look in any environment.
