One of my friends is recording his second album and I layed down my first Dobro tracks this past weekend. The engineer positioned a Neumann 87 about 18 inches above the guitar, right about where the neck meets the body. He gave me a really cool sounding reverb in my headphones that helped inspire my playing. Pulled in a nice thick sound, dark but resonant. Really worked for the songs, I think.
One song was a mid-tempo pop/rock song in G, the other was a slow, moody, haunting tune in Am. It was a challenge to play in a minor key, but I think it worked well.
I can't wait until this project is finished (probably in March). There are 3 more songs for me to add tracks to. We've done 8 songs so far. I'm playing lead guitar, bottleneck slide gtr, dobro, and lap steel on the album....Everything I know how to play and a few things I don't. |

Baz--thanks for the encouragement and the tips.
I'm finally starting to gain a little confidence in my lap steel and reso playing. I've learned alot here on the forum and I've received lots of advice and kind words. It's made a big difference, and now the benefits are starting to show. |

Hey Chris -- congrats on your maiden voyage laying down some steel and dobro tracks! Way cool. Can we hear any online, maybe in the form of an mp3 or some such thing?
Hey, check your emailbox at home. Something cool happening in Chi-town you'll want to know about!

Hey Todd, thanks for the email. I'll be in touch.
I'd love to post some of the stuff I've recorded, but I don't have the hard/software(or the knowledge) to do so. Also, I'd need to get permission from the songwriters, but that would be no problem, I think.
Music on the internet is still a mystery to me. |
