Can you give me your input on the Evans AH200?

For weight reasons (and a weak back), I am thinking of getting one of these.

There have been several threads about these in past years. I understand that Evans has changed and improved them recently.

Anybody have current input on these 5-pound, 200 watt amps? How do they perform in large-room venues? What type speakers are you using? I would start with one 15", 4-ohm, JBL.

Thanks,

bUd

I recently picked up a G-K MB-200. 200 watts at 2 lbs. It's driving a 15 inch SICA equipped cab.

I like it a lot. Not quite as lush as the NV-400 it replaces but worked really well in a band context.

Plus, the entire rig comes in at 21 lbs, approx 40 lbs lighter then the 400.

I figure I added a bunch of playing years to my so-called-career! Smile

Howard, is there more than one model of the GK Mb200? Last night I was looking for one online and found one at an online music store and it had a link to a YouTube video demo as a bass amp. Is there a different version of the mb200 for different instruments? Or is that little amp so clean we can use it for bass & steel? Thanks, Larry

Bass amps only lack reverb to make good steel amps. From the B-15 to the SVT, to the Fender Bassman, even the Peavey TNT, bass amps have sounded good for steel.
And GK isn't gonna pursue THIS market.

Howard, that GK is a great unit. What effects do you run with it to compliment the steel and make up for no reverb?

Howard, are you using your GK for pedal steel? Added reverb?

The Evans AH200 has reverb, chorus and flange. Anybody using current model of AH200 for pedal steel?

Thanks for your feedback.

Yes,

Using it for pedal steel. Actually there are a bunch of us on the forum with this amp. I'm using Boss RV-5 & DD-7 for reverb & delay, same pedals I use on my Peavey amps.

Awaiting on a Dale Hansen "Gizmo" bracket to mount the amp on my steel legs so I can remote locate the speaker cab elsewhere.

Other players have mounted the head in a cabinet along with one of the new neo speakers to effectively make a 21 lb combo amp.

I use the NV-112 for most gigs. This little guy will replace my NV-400 as a backup amp and an amp for larger/outdoor gigs.

FWIW G-K also makes a 500 & 800 watt version if you ever feel lacking for power.

An extensive discussion HERE! when they started shipping in 2010.

This topic probably belongs in the "Electronics" section where you'd get more comments.
