Hello all,
My 1984 SKH Emmons D10 is creating what sounds like a harmonic distortion sound. I've tried trouble shooting but haven't found a fix. I've unhooked all effects, bypassed volume pedal, went straight to amp, tried 2 other amps. Please help.
Thanks in advance

Pat I see that you unhooked all your effects, does that include your tuner? One night I plugged the cables to my Peterson Strobflip in backwards and it distorted my Emmons. Not that this is your problem but who would of thought. Good luck

Have you tried the back neck to see if it does the same thing? This kinda sounds like a problem I had some years ago with a 705 in a Dekley. The P/U was going bad and became microphonic.

How new are the strings?
How are the fingers?
Is it all strings?
Some rust on the strings at the nodes of contact will yield a funky buzzing sound.
Possibly some issues at the roller nuts?
How does it sound acoustic?
If the answer isn't acoustic, I'd go with the pickup.

Back neck is doing this also. It is time to change strings I'll try that and let you know

Look for burrs on the arcs of the fingers.

So many threads here lately about peoples' trials and tribulations about the company, at first, I thought this was yet another one.

First Buddy created Steel Guitar Jazz, then the Sho-Bud guitar, then the Emmons guitar, then the E9th chromatic strings then the C6 F,C and Boo-Wah and now will he never stop? Now "Emmons is creating distortion".

If the preamp is turned up too high and the power amp is not turned up enough you will get distortion. What kind of cords are you using? Is it possible where the guitar is located the pickups or cords are picking up some kind of stray something, computer noise, dimmer switch, etc.? Just some thoughts.

I once head a short key head Emmons and it was a great guitar. Easiest guitar I ever had for getting harmonics. Truly wish I still had it.

You've got a high solder joint some where after the neck switch if both necks do it . Could be in the jack on guitar..

Just noticed this is a month old thread, did you get problem fixed?

Try lowering the pickups with the adjustment screws. Go slowly, about 1/16" at a time.

I've had pickups that were set too close to the strings cause wolf-tones, which resemble distortion.

If both necks are distorting, you still have a bad solder joint somewhere or that neck switch on your Emmons is not making good connection. May try cleaning the connections on the neck switch very carefully with the guitar upside down. I would use a burnishing tool. It's a very fine file. Henry

I am not sure where you are in Florida but Albert Johnson in Tallahassee can fix it for you. He is a cracker Jack on p/p guitars and a lot of others too.

I had similar problem with distortion, and sometimes even neck going dead on my Emmons LeGrand. Replaced the neck selector switch (exact replacement)no more problem. The neck switch can get dirty and worn just like a pot.

Thanx,
Jim
