For those of you that admire Jerry Byrd and his decades of playing beautiful steel guitar music, might there be ANYTHING that 'you' might wish to have access to via the JerryByrd-FanClub.com site?

I've attempted to provide anything/everything that I felt you might enjoy from a site such as this.

After all of these years, I seem to have run out of fresh new ideas. I'd welcome any/all suggestions that you loyal visitors to the site, might wish to have be evaluate for possible inclusion on the site.

I welcome your comments. THANKS!

That was a great book about the man that so many of us grew up admiring. His music was within arms reach every day of my life, I play his music in the car and used to play it while driving those really BIG Rigs cross country.

I surely do miss him.

HI RAY,

One of Jerry's tunes that has eluded me on youtube is "Kauai Beauty". Can You or someone post a link to this tune?

Can't get enough of his performing "I'll Be All Smiles Tonight" and the story that goes along with it. The tone and touch this master had is impeccable. Makes you wonder why we fight pedals and knee levers! He gets more out of that single neck, with fewer strings than one could imagine. No rack systems, effects or anything of that sort, just tone, touch, heart and soul! What more do you need?

The fact that people cannot think of much to add shows how well it's put together. Cool

here is what i would like to see added.

i know jerry made thousands of "talk tapes" where he corresponded with friends. i know its sort of borderline when dealing with personal conversations between two people - but for the historical record, it would be nice to have some of those - edited of course for any non-steel discussion. it would be great for future generations to have a listen to his advice.
also those with personal letters they wish to donate/share with the fan-club. i find it amazing that jerry took the time to reply to each and every letter he received. i know he answered many a question from admiring fans and students

- original scans of the Jerry Byrd fan club newsletters would be neat too.

if needed, i could donate my time and audio editing skills to preserve any tapes out there before they are trashed by unsuspecting relatives.

- you have done such a great and through job Ray - we all appreciate it so much. hopefully, some of you guys on here with photos and stories about JB could send them to Ray - i know there has to be a lot of fresh content out there.

I'd love to see JB's instructional manuals from the 50s. I've only ever seen the book he did with Scotty.

Andy, his instructional books from the 50s are a lot like Scotty's compilation... just fewer pages, fewer tunings, fewer songs, and no audio. The Big Course has many of the same songs and diagrams, the same fretboard charts. I don't think there was a B11 section in the older books. Many of the pages in his 1960 book (published by Rickenbacker) are exactly the same as in Scotty's publication. I think Scotty's team compiled and organized the older material and Jerry added more material and recorded the audio for the Big Course. I haven't done a side by side comparison, but I don't think there is much in the old books that is not in the Big book. I also had Jerry's 1952 book and there wasn't much in it, as I remember. He kept adding material as the years went on.

I believe the tapes Jerry did for the big book were done on a 4 track cassette recorder. He must have gotten a big kick out of using it and the freedom it had to offer. The tracks weren't recorded very hot and there's a lot of tape hiss, though.

I would like to see some examples (maybe tab) to show interested players how he got his sound. There can't be that much more money to make off his tabs and it is so very difficult to get Scotty to get a big enough order to make it worth his while to make the copies and he's had some medical problems...not whole tunes, just phrases. They could then go to Scotty's and buy the entire tab.
I'm just saying that if JB was more easily downloaded for new players to learn from maybe his style won't disappear as it seems to be doing.
Rant over,,,

Yes, available from Scotty's Music. 300+ pages in a 3-ring binder, w/CDs

Scotty also sells JB's "pro arrangements". Individual songs tabbed out by Jerry, exactly as he played them. These arrangements are difficult... lots of 3-string slants, reverse slants, complicated fills mixed in with the melody, etc.
