Another related post got me wondering. According to Emmons and M. Cass, overtightening undercarraige screws (neck) can detract from the sustain/sound of the guitar. After having 5 levers added on to my original 4 lever P/P, which means more brackets and screws fastened to the undercarraige, it seemed that it might have lost a bit of its original bell-like tonal quality, but I was never sure about it. My ears have played tricks on me before. I used to think my Webb amp was broke for a while, turned out it was perfectly fine. It was all me. Has anyone who's had lever additions to their origanl P/P noticed any effect on the tone?

I once saw a PP with NO knee levers many of us PP players thought that it had the most sustain of any guitar we had ever heard. I was at the convention one year and saw it on a table for $3000-$3500, if only we knew then how much guitars would be now.

I once heard a friend say, "Every screw you put on a PSG effects the sound."

I am not sure I agree with that. I do believe that certain things DO affect the sound. IE, Neck, key head, PU and changer screws (as well as the items themselves), might indeed have an affect, more or less, on the sound. As to how much; but more importantly, how much a listener will perceive this, I question.

The ONLY way to prove this would be to conduct a triple blind test; using some of the greats as the "listeners".

I DO know the following. NOT all P/P's have "that" sound regardless how they are made.
