Can some one with more knowledge than me advise what the difference between passive and active EQ means.
Many thanks.

Warren, put quite simply, passive EQ operates by eliminating tonal qualities that you don't want. It's main problem is that, the more adjustment you make (the lower a particular tone control is set) the more signal you lose. With an active EQ, you have the capability to leave what you don't want alone, and to actually boost the tonal qualities that you want. This gives you far more tonal lattitude (a larger variation of tones) while maintaining the strength of your original signal.

Those who want only one particular sound, or just prefer a limited array of tones, tend to like passive systems. Those who want maximum capabilities from their amp, and want the most different tonal variations (the largest array of sounds) at their disposal, prefer the wide tonal palatte that an active EQ system can offer. Smile
