This video has been around for a long time..................when it first surfaced there was quite a discussion here on the Forum on whether he is really playing it or not. As I recall no one ever knew the identity of the person playing in the video, and the name of this Youtube poster is different than the first Youtube poster............ it would be cool to find out |

Good question. I can't detect any discernible left-hand vibrato that coincides with what we're hearing.
Still, whoever it is - the chap in the video or the player he's miming to - they're executing it rather well, aren't they? Not my cup-of-tea musically but I enjoyed it. (Although a couple of minutes was enough before I switched it off...) _________________ Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles and Martins - and, at last, a Gibson Super 400!

Roger, for me, the question is about blocking. there are some passages that he picks one string with his second finger and with out any visible hand movement then picks another with his thumb but the sound is staccato. I think he is miming...........BUT it is well played whoever is doing it. and I would like to know what effect is being used, and settings...etc.................. I like it none the less
PS.there isn't any background noise either |

If he is miming, he is doing one heck of a job. I see him adding vibrato at the same times as you hear it, and it looks like what the vibrato sounds like. And, you hear when he moves the 5th string with his A pedal, and if you look at the pedal rods, he is actually making the pedal movements to get the sound. I'll look again, but I don't see any discrepancies in his picking. If he is miming, he is doing it perfectly in my opinion. And I like the song.
I'm not saying he is miming, but it sure looks real to me. But again, I will have to watch it again.
Barry... Add 120 pounds and he would look like me. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Playing for 54 years and still counting. |

Niels. Point out specific times when he is obviously faking. He may be very well faking, but what I hear and what I see seem to jive. Maybe he is miming, but it would have to be on a song he previously recorded to get that good at miming the song.
The point that was raised about blocking, how can you tell he wasn't blocking? I can't see the palm of his hand, and the way his hand is held looks like the palm could be blocking the strings. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . If you are familiar with Gary Moore he uses a unique bend that was his signature. I would have to go back and look at the time stamp , but I have yet to hear anyone duplicate that bend. If he is playing, he should be famous . If someone can duplicate that bend with that distortion on that little amp he is my new hero. _________________ Die with Memories. Not Dreams.

After a little investigating, and listening to the whole clip several times I think he really is playing it. I think he lives in Switzerland……. the first clip was posted several years ago by Redcanyy, which is a profile that matches the name that has posted the latest clip. So to answer the question, I think his name is Guido, and I think he lives in Switzerland….and I might just have to woodshed this one!!!!! |

There was an earlier clip of this guy I think when he was first learning. He has really improved and yes, I think he is really playing this. _________________ Henry Matthews

I'm trying to figure out why all the references to Gary Moore. Was he a steel guitar player? _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Gary Moore did the song Still got the Blues, which is the song that Guido is doing an instrumental of in the clip Mike P posted |
