I bought an older Sierra on ebay, a 12-string, and I'm wondering about some of the changes. I normally play the Day setup but this one is Emmons - mostly.

Most of the changes are where you'd expect them in the Emmons setup - at least on the E9 section. I haven't tried the B6th parts yet. But there are a couple of strange pulls.

The A pedal pulls the 9th string but not the 10th. The B pedal pulls the G# strings up but also pulls the 10th string. Any ideas why this might be?

I should be able to just trade the rods into new slots in the changer right? So the 10th string will pull on the A pedal. Not sure what I'll do with that other one though. Maybe I can shorten it and raise the 8th string on my C pedal. That pull isn't on this guitar and I use it a lot.

I'll try to post a copedent later and see what some of the brains out there think.

Gary,

if the setup on your guitar is a "standard U-12" it will most likely not have a 9th string D as that would mess up the B6 side of the universal. Rather, the 9th string is B and would be pulled to C# on the A pedal. The 10th string should be G# and be pulled to A on the B pedal. 11 should be E and 12 B.

On the other hand, it could be an exotic personalized setup that the previous owner preferred.
