Whats up with STeel Guitar Nashville? I can't get a hold of anyone and it appears its goin under since Bobby is gone? I still got a $400 gift certificate Id like to redeem in some way. Any body got a phone number to call they aren't answering store number or returning my emails.. Any one know Vic Lawsons phone number?

When a business closes, generally any warranties, gift certificates, owed funds etc etc are a closed deal unless someone takes over and keeps the company going...That may not be the case here, just a possibility JR.

years back I had a classic Wurlitzer Electric Piano on consignment at a local music store, before Craigslist and Ebay..it was there maybe 3 or 4 months.I knew the two owners pretty well. Then one day I get a call from a friend that worked there , the store closed for good ( business partner differences) and the bad news was they sold my Piano a few days earlier and never advised me.

I contacted both owners, one wrote me a check for half of what the Piano sold for and the other told me that because the business was "gone" I needed to file a legal claim which would have been something like 10 cents on the dollar at best but probably zero because the store was flat broke. I asked what happened to the money for my Piano,which was not HIS... he just said..gone. So, I gave him his half of what he owed in words, not words you would talk to your Mom with or in Church..my diatribe ended with " lack of trust as a person, you will never succeed in life"..and other words that went with it...

I am still friends with the one who wrote me the check for 50%... he did the right thing as a 50% partner...he didn't want to close the store.

In a situation like this, Steel Guitar Nashville closing , I suspect there may have been a few deals in the making , parts, repairs etc..which may end up in the big hole..I hope not..but it is likely, nobody can foresee these things...

We lost a PV bass years ago, when, the store went under. I had it there for repairs and when I called to find out about it, I got no answer. After some searching, I found out that, the owner went out of business and nobody could locate any equipment or so they said. It was gone, no notice, no sorry, no payment for it, nothing. I tried to locate the store owner, who, BTW was an old acquaintance, but, to no avail. A hard lesson learned. Sometimes things just happen and there's nothing you can do about it. It does suck, though.

I experienced a similar "lost gear" story when a club my band played frequently was shut down by the DEA/IRS because the silent partner was busted for drugs and cooking the books.

There was crime scene tape over all the doors and the story was carried on local TV/newspaper, etc. I had a brand new mic snake, lights, personal tools but luckily, no serious gear inside the place.

I shared my story with a local lawyer/friend who advised me to NOT make any kind of claim and just walk away and kiss my snake goodbye.

I can empathize for people lose stuff through no fault of their own and really respect honest folks who try make it right. Best wishes, Walter

Back to the start, that $400 is clearly an "asset" which is/will be the estate's business to reimburse or honor. Legally it's no different than a guitar that somebody had in there for repairs. If there is no equitable solution, eventually a judge will be in charge of back payments, usually an proportion to the various claims. A gift certificate might actually among the easier things to get refunded; there's already a set amount and a clear chain of custody. I had though Mr. Seymour was wealthy enough to own a few airplains and old Bigbys? Of course you can shoot the whole wad if you get caught up in the medical system's bizarre payment schemes. Last time I saw a picture he had a room packed with 25, 30 pedal steels? It would be instructive to find out where they went .

This stuff happens all the time, I know of at least 4 friends of mine that have lost gear by leaving the stuff in businesses circling the drain.

Not just instruments, either. Back around 1991, a singer I was working with was recording an album at Willie Nelson's studio, almost finished with it, when the IRS started their case against Willie by seizing the studio and all its contents. It took heavy legal action to retrieve the tapes, since the IRS assumed the tapes belonged to Willie, not Johnny.

The crazy thing is that if your gear were stolen and you had insurance you could probably get an insurance claim...if something disappears via receivership...I think no insurance claim is possible. Strange legal world...

Bankruptcy's do happen, I know people that lost their life savings in 'safe investments' (real estate) when the promoter went belly up.

The flip side is a guy I used to know (we parted company due to his questionable business practices and other issues) who had an MO of buying stuff on time from a music store when he knew it was about to go out of business. He had a lot of gear that he paid very little for. Basically bought at other peoples' expense.

The owner called me up one day and said that I'd better come and get my chainsaw. The banker was going to show up that day and lock the place up. If my chainsaw would have been there when they arrived, just goodbye chainsaw! Whoa!
