I have a Lil Izzy and it definitely helps out with a cleaner sound. I plug it directly into the steel guitar as Craig Baker recommends. My highs are a little sharper than I would prefer. I have cut back on amp settings as well. I can truthfully say my steel sounds so much better with this product but I want a little less high. Is is possible to run it in the volume pedal? Just looking to see if anyone is placing theirs in a different spot.

Paul...I'm running one at both the guitar and the volume pedal at the same time...I would guess that running at only the VP would "dirty" the sound up a little more as I believe you get the greatest amount of effect at the guitar...You're right about the high's, I had to cut it back a little at the amp, but still the clarity and separation is awesome...Hope that helps a little, but hope Craig jumps in and makes it all clear for you!!

Good Luck

I put it out of the pedal when I run Fender amps, and out of the guitar when I run Peavey amps.
I find it sounds better that way. I rarely play without it.

Thanks guys for the comments. Lane, do you run at the input or output on the volume pedal?

It HAS to go on the output. Op amps are one-way devices, and you can't send the signal in the wrong way. When I run the Fenders (both Twin and Super Twin), I go guitar-pedal-Izzy-amp.
My volume pedal is a Goodrich 120, and I had to rearrange it. I used to run input on the front and output on the middle, but the Izzy interferes with that, so I moved the output to the rear hole.

Paul,
Wait 'til you get a little older, your ears will appreciate hearing the high notes!

The only place we have run into serious complaints so far, is with players using either the Roland Cube amps or the Evans amps. It seems both of those brands are voiced very bright, I suppose in an attempt to make the guitars sound "cleaner".

As you all know, the sermon I preach is to protect the guitar's natural highs as close as possible to the pickup. Otherwise, "DANGER Will Robinson". . . you will compromise the overtones that will make your steel guitar sound so pleasing.

Low impedance. . . The Final Frontier!

Sincerely,
Craig Baker 706-485-8792

I recommend just rolling off the highs at the amp, or moving your right hand down the neck a bit.
The Izzy enables all the highs to get to the amp, and it's easier to remove them when they're not wanted than to restore them when they go missing.

I have an Evans FET 500 amp and use a Lil Izzy with it. I have the treble set on 1 or 1 1/4. I always have the Izzy out of the guitar and sometimes, I will run a 2nd one from the rear output of my 120 pedal. It all depends on the room and the sound I am getting. I do not care for only one Izzy just out of the volume pedal. As Lane pointed out, you have to use the back output on the 120 pedal because there is not enough room for it out of the front input. It will hit the input cord.

The Lil Izzy and a Wet Reverb pedal are two horses that every steelplayer should have in their stables, IMO.
