The Probate Court in Hendersonville has received a filing on 4-1-14 for the liquidation of Bobbeรขโฌโขs estate. It was filed by his girlfriend who is listed as the estate's Executor. She has an attorney _________________ 78 Emmons PP,Great tone.82 Emmons SKH #56 |

I hope that means the store can be purchased by someone who can get it back up and running, and not that everything is to just be sold off. I think Bobbe would have wanted his store to continue serving our steel community. It was such a icon in our industry. _________________ Best regards,

I guess the Idea of a will isn't all that bad. Bobbe deserved a tribute and a memorial. If that shop closes it's a total disaster for the Steel Guitar. |

I'm not sure that it would be Joe. There was nothing sold at SGN that isn't available elsewhere. When you get a business vacuum, someone else comes in to fill that vacuum. SGN was all about Robert K Seymour, his personality, his humour and above all, his knowledge. It would be nice if it continued if only for the sake of his loyal staff, who have kept the place going over the past 2 or 3 years. Bobbe's lady really does have to recognise that fact and not just take them for granted and throw them by the wayside which is what appears to have happened.
Bobbe's memorial is the fact that there are hundreds of people who never met him personally, yet considered him a friend. It takes someone quite special to have that effect on folks. _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator. Bobbe's instructional videos and Cobra Coil strings come to mind. Not big things, but both were very important to a lot of people. _________________ -๐๐๐- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

Agreed b0b. But, those items are available elsewhere - instructional videos and steel guitar strings. The steel guitar universe won't collapse if Bobbe's specific and personal wares were to be no longer available. That's a very sad but harsh fact.
I have a large consignment of Cobra Coils, because I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time and bought enough to keep me going for a long time. I just hope for all others who like them as much as I do that someone else will pick up the reins and continue to have them manufactured.
It would be a travesty if Bobbe's videos turn up being sold at a garage sale somewhere. _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator. Agree with all the sentiments expressed. I'm new(ish) to psg so had no previous knowledge or experience of Bobbe. I've just started to take notice of his instructional videos. I can see why people say tone is in the hands of the player. In those first few videos, he plays several different steels and makes each one sound fantastic and full of tone. Incredible.
The videos make me laugh - whatever Bobbe sets out to show us, he invariably gets sidetracked by his own playing. He is a confusion of levers, pedals and string numbers, but if you stay with it, there's some really great stuff there for beginners and I just wish he'd done a few more. Still, there is the legacy of YouTube, plus instructional videos which it is to be hoped can still be made available to the steel community, once this rather sad and tasteless episode is (we hope, favourably) concluded. _________________ Ben-Rom #017 'Lorelei', Guild D25, Epiphone 'Joe Pass', Roland 40XL, Hilton VP

One the videos I always wanted but just never had the money at the time was the Thumb-picking method (I guess that's what it was called)...I'm out of luck now...I hope everything works out.
(If anyone has that DVD they're willing to part with, please email or PM me, thank you.)

Sad that SGN's gone; sad the Bobbe's gone; didn't realize how much I relied on them. Consignments for one, trade-ins, accessories.
Now that they seem to be out of play, maybe temporarily, maybe not, who else does consignments? Scotty's? Frenchy's? I've got one, maybe 2 PSG's that need to be in someone else's hands. I'm getting old, haven't lost the itch yet, but I better start cleaning house soon.
Re Consignment - anyone have any good recommendations?
Thanks, bk |

Bondz music in Wildwood Florida will do consignments. I know he has sold many consignment steels. I have no idea what his consignment arrangements are, just that he does them.
The owner, Johnny Bondz, is a steel player and formerly was the Gretsch/Sho-Bud salesman for Florida.

I agree entirely. I never met Bobbe personally but I've spoken to him on the 'phone, have done plenty of business with him over the years, and proudly wear one of his T-shirts.
He was a good salesman. He talked me into buying one of his Dobro synthesizer pedals even though I didn't need one at the time. Even though Bobbe has gone, the shadow of what he did and the services that he provided will be around as long as the steel guitar is.
I feel sorry for his staff who have been thrown out of work. At the very least I would have hoped that they would be given the opportunity to buy the company and continue it. |
