Good to see an article in Rolling Stone on Guthrie - he has become over the past several years one of my favorite guitarists - just brilliant.
Love his solo album, all instrumental, great stuff. Not real chicken pickin' country all the way through if that's what one expects. Some jazz, rock, funk.

Short article, and I know they can't get it all in there, but they left out a very important part of Guthrie's maturing as a musician and it is germane to the Forum because of the band leader: Guthrie played acoustic and electric guitar along with some mandolin with the Jerry Douglas Band for about four years. I saw that edition of the band live three or four times. Just fantastic!
A couple years back Guthrie formed 18 South with Jon Randall, his wife Jessi Alexander, et al. I'm still waiting for a CD from this group. And they've been out here in my neck of the woods a few times but I haven't been able to see them live. They've done a couple of very expensive dinner shows in a high dollar winery cave in Napa Valley along with a private party in the area for some big bucks dude. I've been bugging Guthrie to bring the band back out from Nashville and play a venue where regular folks don't have to sell a body part to gain admission.
Also not mentioned in the article, Guthrie has been playing with one of the best young singers of real, actual country music today - Ashley Monroe - they were in Southern California last weekend at the Coachella festival.

I agree with Mark! First encountered Guthrie with the Jerry Douglas Band and have been amazed by his musicianship ever since. By the way, Ashley Monroe is a Knoxville, TN girl.
