What is everyones thoughts about changing my George L pickup in my carter sd10 to a bl705 reissue pickup?
I have read where the xr-16 pickup is supposed to be good in a carter. |

I've got the xr-16 on my e9th neck and the BL712 on my c6th neck on my carter I use it in the studio it sounds great and all the session musician's like the sound I run the carter to a sarno revelation pre amp then to a peavey tube fex with the newman presets to a walker stereo steel amp too, two evans cabnit's with peavey 15 black widow's
I have the BL-705's on my Emmons legrand II and it is killer!! I play the Emmons on the road. but I also play into sarno revelation pre amp with a lexicion mpx1 with buddy Emmons pre sets and use the walker stereo steel amp too, two rick Johnson cab's with seca 15's _________________ carter D-10, 2 fender steel king amp, peavey profex II moded ,bbe882i, hush pro fender delux 85 amp two boss katana 1-12's |

I had a Wallace True tone in my S-12 Carter but couldn't get past he hum in some of the places I play. I replaced it with a LXR-16 and it sounds every bit as good as a single coil but absolutely dead quiet.
Becky Lawrence told me that John Fabian always said the Carters sounded the best to him with the LXR-16. But that Bud Carter likes the BL712.
So I don't think you could go wrong with either one. _________________ Zum SD-12 Black, Zum SD-12 Burly Elm Several B-Bender Tele's and a lot of other gear I can't play.

When I was playing Carters(7 new ones), I started out using the LXR-16's but later settled with the George L 10-1's. |

Jeremy, although I never tried the new 705 in a Carter specifically, I will tell you they are great. I installed them in my GFI after many other pickups including original 705's and haven't looked back. They surpass the originals IMHO as I've done a side by side comparison. The Carter's I've had in the past I've used original 705, 10-1, E-66, Tru-Tone, and XR-16. Knowing the tone of the Carter and the new 705, I think you will be very happy with the combination. The only steel I've found the new 705 doesn't pair well with is my MSA lacquered classic. Emmons single coil seems to be best match.

I had 4 Carter guitars and tried different pickups and the XR16 was by far the best. I had a BL705 (Original) in a Dekley for 16 years and it was one heck of a good pickup so I would think it would probably work great in the guitar.
I would not suggest using the 10-1 (too harsh),E66 (thin and very brittle with no warmth) or True tone (great tone but Hum may be extremely loud in certain clubs) _________________ Cops aren't paid much so I steel at night. |

I use the original chromed BL705's in my D10 Carter. HUGE difference from the TrueTones wich was installed when I got it. The TrueTones really sound great in the carter but i prefer the 705's. Much more controlled sound in both highs, mids and lows. I really recommend that you try the 705's! _________________ Tim Carlstedt, Helsingborg, Sweden
