Back in the 1970s I became disenchanted with the direction of popular music. By coincidence, that was about when I walked into a record shop in Westerly, Rhode Island. I picked up and interesting LP by Arhoolie/Folklyric. It was pre-digital times and I sent off for their mail order catalogue. This Hawaiian LP was on the list. What a relief amid all the musical garbage that was going down.

Speaking of early recordings of Hawaiian music I have one my mother had, I know it predate me and I was born in 1933, But that is not important. It is on Brunswick label Side [A] is "KAWAHA' Hawaiian Melody by Frank Ferera and Anthony Franchini Side [B] is MALANI ANU KA MAKANI. They still play. I need to have them copied onto a CD. I remember playing this record on a wind up victrola when a child.
