Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but:
1/2 price books in Houston (montrose) has a large quantity of a great book titled "Gibson electric steel guitars" for sale. $10 a piece. Tons of info and photos. Normally when one location has a lot of copies of a book the other locations do too(I assume nation wide). Just a head up! |

This book is awesome. Excellent info and beautiful photos. Even shows shipping totals. It's worth every penny at the original price; for $10.00, this book is a steal (no pun intended).
Wishing Mr. Duchossoir would do a companion book about the history of Fender steels. |

Half Price Books in Austin has multiple copies of this book at $10. A friend of mine picked up a copy for me. The book lists at $40 and is brand new. As Jack has said, it's a beautiful tome. Mine will be gracing the coffee table in my living room (when I finish reading it).

I just bought two at the HPB at Lamar/Koenig in Austin, and they had 3 more left as of Monday.

While you're snagging the Gibson book, look for a book called "Fender. The Sound Heard Round the World" by Richard Smith, published by Hal Leonard. It's really about Leo, not just the Fender company or products. Naturally, those topics are well covered but not in encyclopedic form like some books. They cover his life, business pursuits, and inventions before, during, and after his involvement with the Fender company. A thoroughly fascinating read, and the author really went out of his way to verify every detail instead of just passing along the same old folklore that we've all seen. Very enlightening, and naturally, there is a lot of stuff about steel and steel players.
HPB had quantities of both at the Phoenix store a couple of weeks ago. Cheap. |

Agree with Darrell that Richard Smith's Fender book is excellent, and has more info about Leo's steel guitars than any other book that I'm aware of.
Still hoping for a book about Fender's steels that delves as deeply as Mr. Duchossoir's beautiful edition on Gibsons. |
