I'm finding that completely ignoring this annual debacle, (and others like it,) is by far the best approach to this scourge. It is an entirely meaningless event to all except those that mindlessly follow these kinds of things..

You guys are so far of base about this whole matter and you guys ain't helping nothing to fix it. It's deeper then that in your minds. My god,

we have never lived in a time where needing a record company, radio station, or club owner was so inconsequential. What did they give you in the first place? Exposure.

Today, with recording equipment the way it is, you can produce a good recording in your home. With Youtube and spotify and social media like Facebook and Twitter, you can build an audience.

Build an audience that will fill seats and you don't have to worry about what a club owner says: all they care about is filling the seats with paying and drinking customers.

You can make avante guard Klesmer music if you want to and find an audience.

How about this: how about instead of pissing and moaning all the time, you put your money where your mouth is, produce your own recordings and go out and market them.

I'm sure there are plenty out there right now creating the music that you like: go out and support them by buying their downloads and going to see them.

And if no one is creating the music you like, what does that say?

If you guys put in half as much time actually producing and distributing and supporting the music you like as you do bitching and moaning, you'd create all the music anyone ever wanted.

I watched the last half of the show and was disappointed in the segment where they gave Merle Haggard the award. I wish they'd have had him performing instead of George Strait and Miranda Lambert. I felt bad for George as he sounded out of pitch for almost all of his rendition of "The Fugitive". I didn't think it did him justice for his stature in country music. He's retiring soon and maybe it's time. He's still one of my favorites though.......JH in Va.

The show isn't bad enough, as an ACM member, today I got an advertising flier from the Academy saying I could buy tickets for the show that is due next week.

Somebody at the Academy doesn't know that the show is already over. Leo your a little closer to this thing.
What's the deal?

Garth was just one small step in the path that took country from Eck Robertson to Jason Aldean.

i have to point out that the purpose of these award type shows are to draw millions of eyeballs for advertisers and sell more records - thats just the way it is. its not to promote 'country music'. sort of like the Super Bowl is not ALL about the game between the two best teams...it WAS at one time. its a marketing mega payday now, same with the ACM etc type shows. just realize it for what it is and move on...nothing to see here... Confused

I'd be curious who you all would have rather seen on the awards that were overlooked. I mean new acts, not the old timers.

Which acts whose performers are under 30 do YOU think should have won?

Of the new acts and artists,

1. What was the best country band for 2013?
2. Who was the top female singer for 2013
3. Who was the best male vocalist for 2013?
4. Which was the top song for 2013?
5. Which was the top album for 2013?

Here is your chance to bring attention to those acts you believe are Real Country and were overlooked.

Again, new bands and artists only.

That whole Board of the Academy Of Country Music folks are the Big Money Music Business if you just look at the names in your program book that you got at the award show in Las Vegas, Nv. and they are all milking it to the end. Don't you think the IRS loves this move. They don't care what you steal as long as you give them their part of the deal. Please wake up and understand the everyday common Pigeon has no chance, unless you or they do something about it.Am just thankful of being bless to be in the way of the truth about how things are run thanks to my late Bill Boyd & Gene Weed & Dick Clark. Like Fran Boyd once said to me.If you don't do what they want they'll kill your career. I said what career.I stand up for all Musicians/Songwriters & Artist from the bottom down to the top who do it for the right reasons like myself. Live it for the love of music and the God Talent he gives us. The Dollars are just to get by in staying around. So are you for or against the move to AT&T Stadium, in Texas? They said they need a bigger venue, to sell more tickets, so they are going BIG.
The MGM Grand seats about 16,000 and Jerry's AT&T Stadium can seat 100,000.

The 50th annual Academy of Country Music Awards will be held Sunday, April 19, 2015, and again be broadcast on CBS. Las Vegas has been home to the ceremony since 2003, when it relocated from Los Angeles.
The 2015 ceremony will cap off three days of events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the awards, including the third annual ACM Party for a Cause: 50 Years of Music & Memories on April 17 and 18, at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas. The two-day outdoor music event[ will include multiple stages for ongoing live country music performances, interactive experiences and a family-friendly country marketplace with food trucks and vendors from around the country. Participating artists will be announced at a later date.

This is an idea that has greed and failure written all over it. Let's call it "Outdoor Music," that way we'll broaden the appeal to everybody not just the country crowd, and we'll make ten times the money. I can almost hear the crickets chirping now... Winking

Don't mistake me for a Luke Bryan fan, but I did read the article, and the naysayers mentioned are from the Luke Bryan "camp," and unless I missed it, there weren't any quotes from Bryan himself.

Me,Am just the walking ghost in the wings of my dark shadow past memories of all those people who sold us out for the Big Money and career they have of our hard work here in Southern California Country neighborhood Music. The new world of Country Music Musicians/Songwriters/Artist.This is their world now, so sit on it and keep crying cause that's all you're gonna get out of it. I've never made one red cent from the Academy Of Country Music nor Mr. Dick Clark's Production Co. in my 38 years of giving free service of doing the jobs I did for them. My 38 years of memories is worth all of that to me and true friendship & loyalty is paid in full. I just want that whole board to take some of that big money they are so happy about making and put the real people in the History Book of our neighborhood Academy Of Country Music " Museum " that they don't want to do. So,after 50 years the young ones are the old ones who are in charge of this. I know they would love to kill me,but, I've already died once.So I am truly in God's hands now. Thanks Uncle Leo J.Eiffert,Jr.& Pigeons Band flying with our music in hope of keeping Traditional Country Music and our own style of music alive as musicians and Artist. You only need one:

Since that song was written in 1970, I'm guessing country has had this problem for a while now. Smile

All I can do is just go out there and play the traditional Country Music and my style of how I feel about this matter.Uncle Leo J.Eiffert,Jr. & PIGEONS band. Winking

We mustn't forget that superb song by Jason Aldean called 1994. The song is about Joe Diffie and all the lines are lines or snippets from Joe Diffie songs. It must really take an incredible songwriter to "assemble" (can't bring myself to say "write")a song using lines someone else wrote.
